@ela I got their wired and Bluetooth headphones on Black Friday and I'm quite happy with them. One minor downside is that they don't accept BT audio from two sources (e.g. phone and computer) at the same time.

Ich hätte Lust gehabt, mit Hilfe des Modems und des Raspberry Pi ein skurriles Menüsystem, ein Textadventure (unter Verwendung von Text-to-Speech und Zifferntasten) oder vielleicht auch ein BBS zu betreiben. Aber ich möchte eben *nicht*, dass Leute anrufen.
Ich hab noch ein Festnetztelefon und das Problem, dass das neuerdings von Telemarketern und sonstigem Abschaum angerufen wird. Also hab ich ein altes Modem ausgegraben, es an einen Raspberry Pi angehängt und so konfiguriert, dass es nach ein paar Mal läuten abhebt und einen Handshake für eine Datenverbindung versucht. Bin gespannt, ob das reicht, um diese Anrufe auf Dauer loszuwerden.

Weil wir gestern zu viert eine 50cm-Pizza bestellt haben, hat es mich interessiert, ob der Preisunterschied von 10€ zu einer 40cm-Pizza gerechtfertigt ist.
Es stellt sich heraus: der lokale Pizzalieferdienst verrechnet für beide Größen auf 1/100 Cent genau denselben Preis pro cm². Die Pizza in Normalgröße - 30 cm - ist pro Fläche teurer; man zahlt etwa 1,90€ pro Pizza mehr.

This got me thinking. Password managers are great and I've been trying to convince my parents to use one. But in @paco@infosec.exchange 's mom's case, it would have been a disaster had the attacker managed to get access to the password manager's database. So maybe biometrics and passkeys/Fido keys are the way to go. I think I should also consider setting up a network-based ad blocker like Pi-Hole.

I think it was obvious because while the protocol is open, the answer to the question "Can I run my own server and connect it to the network?" was always "Umm, ahem, not really, because...".
At the same time there were already hosters who would run a Mastodon instance just for you for a couple euros per month.

I see Bose and Sonos primarily as hardware manufacturers. I think in the history of tech, there are quite a few cases in which the more open, less restrictive hardware has had more success in the market (including licensing/patents).
I get that they would like to milk their customer base a bit more - but for me, possible vendor lock-in makes products less attractive.

There's lots of working Phillips tech still out there, including electron microscopes that they made before they decided they're not a technology company any more.
