@NorcalGma2 All of my sisters (I have six) and I think we make our grandmother's potato salad. We all make great potato salad. All 7 versions are different. I remember standing at her elbow while she showed me how to make it, so I know I had direct instruction, but I am also quite sure I've changed it in the intervening 60 years. Also, I knew my grandmother, and I guarantee she never made it the same way twice.

My brother-in-law, who has played banjo in bluegrass bands for 60 years, says Martin was always better than he was, even when they were teenagers.
