The thing I really hate about culture wars is when people start deciding whether they like things based on ideological positions rather than whether they like them. I like how culture wars go. When The Odyssey was doing well despite Musk hating it everyone was "haha Nazis" but now Emily Wilson has also come out against it some people are more conflicted. #TheOdyssey

I love how in The Odyssey film Telemachus has a mentor whose name is Mentor and I thought "how literal", only to discover that it is his actual name in the Homeric poem and our mentors are named after him. #TheOdyssey

@stancarey my mother thought me to hate it and I've stuck with that ever since. But it just sounds wrong in a way that "aren't" "don't" and "doesn't" do not. I think it might be because it adds a short vowel before n't (although "doesn't" also does that.

New music includes concerts by the Unthanks (in Belfast), Focus and Jon Spencer (minus the Blues Explosion), as well as the next Kaleidoscope Night and full New Music Dublin programme. Newly added films inculde Butterfield 8, Persepolis, The Warriors, The Killer, Hard Boiled, Rave Culture, Mimic, Creep and Akira, as well as an Alan Gilsenan retrospective and a screening of The Ballad of Wallis Island followed by chitchat with its writer. There are other things.
