In those cases it saves you a lot of money to NOT buy a Chinese phone... There are already great EU alternatives at the market. Yes, some are double the price of a EU phone. But with a partly salt-battery and charging 1400 times instead of the big brand's 80/ times, and receiving updates for at least 5y.. these phones will in the end be cheaper.
Unless you drop them dead of course. 😅

Unfortunately, because I've bought a t-shirt in a fairtrade shop decades ago when on holiday abroad, and it's still good to wear!

@Jazzimat@mastodon.uno i was just about to mention the plastic "fabric" clothes and cloths!
Horrible!! I was looking for cotton cloths the other day, but it's all microfibre (plastics).
I save my t-shirts and (kitchen) towels from now on and do as my grandmother used to do: cut them up and use those for cleaning etc. Too bad even sewing thread is plastics nowadays.

Talking about secure... Please forbid these META-glasses in Europe! They are 100% NOT compliant with GDPR!
People are no longer safe. Anyone, everywhere can be filmed without knowing, and these data will beused for AI training and god knows what else!

Net-zero greenhouse emissions at 2050....
What about finally doing something about overconsumption of plastic sht up until clothes?! It's getting hard to get cotton clothesninstead of all those plastics poly-whatever mixes clothes are made of. Microfibre, also plastics. How will you stop those and change it back to natural fibres - not just cotton - if you want net-zero greenhouse emission in 24y time?

Good thinking. Because the people of Europe don't pay enough already for climate control. More, better, bigger AI !
Have the citizen pay untill they have nothing left! Who cares about climate control anyway!

O I know my rights. I just wonder if all of you all at the @EUCommission knows the GDPR rules.
Because Google is allowed to do what they wants - as in ditching more and more privacy rights and EU not fining them - European governments still working with Google, Microsoft,.... for storing OUR PERDONAL data and acces to governmental apps (ID-check), age control by ID check, ...
We know our rights.
But @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu GDPR needs an urgent update after 10 years if our privacy is still as sacred for the EUC as it is for the people of the union...

I quit remembering the letters when half of the alphabet was added. Same with the flag.
Because if you want it ALLl inclusive... What's the hetero flag? The single (wo)men flag? The young, retired, working, (following political groups).. and so on.
The more separation in symbols, the more separation in people, instead of inclusion, imo.

Same reason as why middle east is not medlng in this Ukrania-Rusia war.
There's only one president in the world who thinks he needs to intervene in all world's problems, please let's keep it that way before the world will be destroyed completely.
(With which I do not mean I don't condemn what is going on in the whole middle east.)

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu ".. the values that bring us together..."
One of them is - but looks like soon to be WAS - privacy. There's a lot of talking at the EUC about privacy. But nothing is actually done.
Still using American servers to store sensitive data, to name just one thing, where privacy is almost but soon to be completely unknown.
Now I hear talk about banning VPN, only - really? I am not a conspiracy-believer, but now you have me wondering whether it is really JUST - because of age control.
Because there are plenty of other ways to control the age of social media subscribers, without having to collect all other posible data. Without having to just delete the complete existence of 'Privacy'. But not a single word about them in your communication. That's why it makes me wonder. Because I can absolutely not imagine nobody knows or has heard of or even thought about a possibility of a less drastic way for checking just the age at the EUC.
@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu ,
you've talked about trusting the EUC, having faith in the European Union...
Maybe, I am not an expert but just maybe... when you actually think before immediately shooting something off, when you actually listen to what REAL people - as in: down to earth civilians, not you ivory tower inhabitants - have to say, maybe trust will grow.
Shoot VPN down, and you will for sure achieve the opposite. No expert needed to tell you that.
So maybe don't skip the first part of that report.
For one because the internet is way bigger than the EU.
Privacy is a right. Stop violating the right to privacy on fallacies.

@_elena@mastodon.social I've read about it once, when the EU made the announcement of intending to make such place, but never heard of it again. Maybe because it didn'5 interest me (or because I was sceptical, like the "yeah duh .. a Google-is-still-hiding-in-the-background'-social"-feeling).
Although living in 2 EU-countries makes the change of reading more about it bigger you'd think, but ... No. Sorry.
But thanks for your interesting 'backgroundcheck', at least I know I don't have to feel like I have missed anything, staying at masto is still the best choice. 😁

how can we trust the EU "making Europe a hub for innovation that you can trust" when AI is the biggest polluter and energy slob EVER, and the population has to bear the costs of it – literally and figuratively?? How can we trust the EUC for taking care of the PEOPLE of Europe, when they forget about the PEOPLE of Europe and just go for the money industry brings in?
You don't care about throwing our privacy details in public by using the no-privacy at all American servers. So don't say we can trust you, because obviously we can NOT.

So how is it possible @EUCommission is telling off Meta but at the same time is doing nothing about all data of EU citizens stored by EU govs at the no-provacy-American servers?! That's very much 'pot and kettle' imo.
