It's so interesting, isn't it? How phrases come into and go out of fashion? Like, I remember this one, it was ALL the rage in 2016, something about "vote blue no matter who"? And yet, here we are 10 years later, and the people who were posting that daily on Xitter back then don't seem to remember the phrase at all, now white establishment Dems aren't able to just stand up and say "hey, vote for me, what, are you gonna vote for the greater evil?" and expect...

We at Big Trans™️ would like to assure the communities we serve that we have dedicated teams working on the discovery of new genders every day. Recently, we discovered "warm sunny day", and "rainbow sparkle", and "klorb". We're not sure of the parameters of klorb yet, as klee hasn't indicated kleir position aloud as of yet, but we hope for a breakthrough soon. It is only through the actions of science that we can accurately map the shifting genderspace con...

Something happened to me recently that I've never heard of happening to another trans woman. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that maybe whomever it was doesn't write much. But I do. So. For many years, I'd say my confidence about my womanhood ran at 100%. It's been way more than half my life now, and I'm 60, so that's a nice little pile of years. I recently discovered that it hadn't been, all along. I found this out by having it suddenly increase...

#transphobia My Ottawa-based friend Rowan says it WAY better than I would have. I'm with them. There's a clear description of the post in the Alt-Text. Done with Timmy's. I met Rowan before he transitioned, but shortly after *Love Lives Here* was published under his deadname (2019). If you don't know the story, the tl;dr: version is that his daughter came out as trans. And while she was going through the early part of her transition, her wife ALSO came out as trans. And i...

https://youtu.be/sgM63L8H9kM #trans #activism #CanadianTransRefuge Okay, my dears. The first of what I hope will be many, many videos in support of Zara. If you would like to make a video in support - including in your own language - please do, and DM me for how to get it to me. Couple of minutes is plenty, expressing that you're in support, where you're from, and that you're hoping Canada will do the honourable thing, and open our doors once more to those fleeing tyranny. We fail...

Trans talk. A very dear friend just gave me a flash of insight she'd had into why my "native accent" (North London UK working class) is so clearly masc-coded, such that when I return to the UK, and it makes its inevitable appearance, I get misgendered constantly. To my face, even. On the phone, forget about it. The only difference I've ever been able to discern and track was word-choice. UK English uses many endearments for people, and the ones I used were masc-coded. That on...

The problem I have with this theory is it's a closed loop ontologically. You say you literally assume that if a man is criticising gay people, he must BE gay (or trans) himself...you are then implicitly saying that "gay people are doing all the bigotry to themselves!" It is not true. Most of our foes are quite happily heterosexual. That they may have some insecurities that lead them to cruelty, doesn't make them automatically gay. What you're seeing is called "confir...

I don't believe it's ethical for me to take payment from people who are fleeing oppression, especially people from my own community. So if that's you, and you need my help, there will be no paying. If anyone *else* felt like it, I do have a ko-fi, and a buck or two a month in a subscription would be a real boost to my circumstances as someone on disability. Rent control keeps me housed, but the leftover dosh isn't much to live on. :) I want to be clear there is no pressure what...

If you consider yourself someone who strives for social justice, like some kind of warrior or something, this post is for you. It's about What To Do When You Just Fucked Up. So. You did a racism. Or a transphobia. Something too settler to imagine. Whatever. You fucked, in other words, up. 1. Breathe. Seriously. Take a moment. You just left the toilet, skirt in your pants, and have accordingly shown your ass. You're embarrassed and ashamed, desperate not to be seen as a "bad one...

I notice that the Great American State Fair has been the subject of much attention, in the sense that people are pointing and laughing at the ridiculously small groups of people (there aren't nearly enough to call them a crowd) who have turned up. I do notice, though, that the commentators seem to be using an unusual measure to conceal this. Most are using the words "tons of people". I suspect this is accurate, actually. 25 average USan adults would weigh approximately a lit...

Okay, this is just *madness*. I went to a gala tonight, comped because I was an early board chair of what is now a full-size queer community centre in our cities (ourspectrum.ca). Tonight, they called me up to the front. I was surprised, but game. I went forward, while my friend Suzi (ED of Spectrum) praised me. Growing confused, I stood and listened...as she announced that Spectrum was instituting a new annual award: The Cait Glasson Award for Queer Activism. Seriously. They named a freak...

Screenshot it, include my name, and spread it EVERYWHERE. Sorry for the grim news. But I think this is important, and I want each of you in your respective countries to think about whether you'd be willing to contact your representative to tell them to pressure Canada to open the doors to trans refugees. That's...

What I like to think of being queer goes like this: The first rule of Queer Club, is you have to want to be a member. The second rule of Queer Club is *there are no more fucking rules*. No one gets to tell someone whether that person is "queer enough", or any other identity. Anyone who tries to fundamentally misunderstands queerness. We are rejecting the tying of identity to social roles or behaviour. We reject hierarchical rules of who may use what parts of their body with anoth...

Uneducated white people should be required to have a warning label: CAUTION WHITE FRAGILITY CAUTION This container can explode under the lightest touch of social justice accountability. Beware of shrapnel. When experiencing Rapid Uncontrolled Disassembly, may create hazard to all within earshot. CAUTION WHITE FRAGILITY CAUTION Maybe we could look into some kind of bell, too? I mean, the government is supposed to protect our safety against the flaws of poorly-built product. It just mak...

#MutualAidRequest Hello, my friends. I have a dear trans friend in the US who is struggling hard to make ends meet right now. I know y'all are too. So I'm hoping we can cobble together enough of us to get her and her family some help. The goal is USD 300. Living expenses, really. Food for all, meds, the usual stuff. Her collection point is below. She thinks, cause, y'know, RSD, that most of the people she knows don't really like her. I'm hoping we can...

I am having a painful day. Would you kind folks, in the next 24 hours or so, tag me on a post you make about the last moment (or much longer?) you had or saw some #TransJoy ? Or #NBJoy ? Or #AgenderJoy ? Now you see why I'm asking? Too many possible sources. #BlackJoy or #DisabledJoy or #DeafJoy or so many others. If you've a marginalised identity and found joy recently, tell me what it was. Don't be afraid to say it was about discomfiting your oppressor. Speak your joy. Doesn'...

CW: SA! Urgent message for survivors! I'm not going to put this behind a spoiler thingy, because it's information that is urgently needed by survivors, and anyone else who is affected emotionally by scenes of SA in reportage. Current news out of Israel, based on big reporting by NYT, is absolutely FULL of graphic descriptions of various forms of SA, truly horrific stuff. Massive crimes against humanity. I experienced it. Reading this. You don't have to. You can believe the vict...

Two thoughts. Trump came into office the second time riding a wave crafted by the Heritage Institute. Their Project 2025, a long-term goal to remake America in their desired shape, with them at the top forever, of course...well, its basis was in the everlasting expansion to the powers of the executive. From "the guy who did the work ordered by Congress", he'd become "the guy who ordered Congress what to do". That's not just Trump. That's been going on for decade...

When RFK Jr. "investigates" autism, be aware that he is deliberately and knowingly engaging in eugenics. He's literally looking for ways to eliminate people like me from the human race. I'm autistic. So when you ask "what causes you?", you're positioning me as something that needs to be investigated. Something that needs to be "cured", which is to say, eliminated. Because I think in a different pattern than some...

A thought about public transit. Why do we have to pay for it? We built it. It was our tax money and our labour and our commonly-held land. The buses and trains we bought, we paid for. The people who drive them? We pay that. So why do we charge people to use it? We don't charge road users to use the roads. "We pay for them," the drivers say. "So do we pay for them," say I. "We have to have insurance!" "So do transit ve...

Dunno who needs to hear this today, but if you're wondering whether you're trans enough to transition, YOU ARE. The fact you're wondering about it is enough to make it worth trying. Remember that initially, transition is just changing your name, your expression of gender, and your pronouns (if desired on any of those). It's all reversible. So if you want to know if you're trans enough, ask yourself: "Do I think I am trans?" If the answe...

A thought. We are hurting economically. We are. Don't care where you are. I am too. But remember: every unit of currency we save and then set fire to by buying cheaper gas, is one we are stealing from our grandchildren. We know the problem. We know the capitalist solution. We tax it til it hurts. And we put it off. Again and again. We use our money to build infrastructure for wildly profitable companies under pretend threat that they'd leave. Or that that would be bad. The pri...

I think I'm gonna start a blog. Take my political writing there, and only drop links to it from here. I feel torn, because I want to post about it all the time, but I try to limit my posts to when I'm feeling the most feisty right now, because what I'm saying feels wrong to hide behind a curtain, but consent is a huge thing for me. And I resolve it by posting infrequently on the topic, and trying to hashtag it to help it be noticed by filters. But given my current occupation as ba...

Some writing from earlier today, about how unlearning bigotry works, with a personal example. -=- The phrase that changed my thinking was a direct challenge from a Black friend: "Oh, yeah? Well, what have you done TODAY that honoured Black bodies?" It won't be for everyone, of course, but this brought home to me that the work is not a seminar that you attend, and you get your Black Ally badge for your Scouting sash. Time for a fresh #Introduction post. Been 18 months since the last one. I'm Cait, late 50s, GenX, transitioned at 26 in 1992. I used to translate (not interpret) French, German, and Russian to English, for 23 years. I'm now retired due to disability (I use a cane for mobility), and my primary occupation is activism for the queer community. I am comfortable (to a greater or lesser degree) conversing in French, German, Russian, or Spanish (in decreasing order of ability to spea...
