people who, back in the day, grew up reading gaming magazines, usually know something about all the Classic Games. but people who didn't read those magazines as kids? i've noticed that they WILL have memories of approximately one (1) well-known game franchise. but you keep talking to them about all the other games they played, and like. all their nostalgic favorites are called like "Mrs Teacher's Educational Maze!" or "TV Show: The Movie: The G...

personally i'd want the person in charge of a website i use to be more rabidly, unreasonably, violently anti-facebook than i am, since it's their job to be anti-facebook on my behalf. i don't have time to keep up with it all personally. don't have the emotional energy, since i'm not a specialist, only an amateur facebook-hater. so you'd just trust that the person running your instance is a completely normal, well-adjusted, balanced, uncontrollable,...

@body i think the main skill (like most 'tool-making') is being able to bridge the gap between "what thing do i want to make" and "when the thing's made, how will i want to use it to make other things"

pretty much all apps i ever use get worse every time they update. because of this, for at least ten years, i have my phone (an iphone) set to only update apps manually. but yesterday something terrible happened. as i was scrolling down the list of “apps with pending updates” to update just one of them (there’s probably at least 70 on there, most of which i will never update) the UI lagged, and during the hitch, registered a tap on the “update all apps” button

i just saw a screenshot of some linux distro. i was like. what window manager is this? what UI theme? it looked kinda like one of those fancy "we're easy to use!" linux distros you see. yknow where they make it look kinda like Mac OS. but there's always some small, telltale signs: odd text alignment, unclear, monochrome icons, an overall lack of polish. you can tell it's not a *real* Mac because of those. anyway i looked a bit closer, and it actually was...

*guy in 1967* the demand for electric harpsichords has increased over 900% in the last six months, and as a result we're closing all our other production lines to focus on winding special harpsichord pickups. you could say i've bet the company on it, but it's a sure bet. the future of music

it is said that approximately 1,993 years ago a man who disappeared had emerged from a burrow, and it was clear to onlookers that it was man no more, and they saw that what was man had become unshackled from the concept of man, and that what emerged frolicked, and its long ears stood proud, and it sniffed the air, and its beedy eyes surveyed the crowd, and its great thighs propelled it, and in those leaps and hops they saw its great vitality, and they saw that it also laid eggs, many eggs indeed

i think the best way to use LLMs is this: don't type into the AI chatbot's input field. instead, write a description of the problem in a text file. work through the specifics of what you want to accomplish, and how you'd go about doing it. once you've got a few hundred words of ideas and planning, you can go back to the empty, unused AI tab and close it. then begin doing the work yourself. consider sending your notes to friends or experts. when you're done...

rest assured, you are not like those people who get obsessed with talking to ChatGPT. you're immune to that kind of psychological manipulation. you're more discerning and strong-willed than them, in fact. if anything, you're one of the top few percent of thinkers in the entire world. you're probably one of the few people alive right now, perhaps the only person, who is truly capable of inventing something totally new. something called Spiral Consciousness
