i tried shutting down my phone as quickly as possible, but it was too late. the process had Begun. it can only be paused, never reversed. so i let all the apps update. now literally everything on my phone is 15-20% worse. i haven’t updated some of these apps in 3-4 years, and the new, latest versions? all of them slower. all of them have worse UI, redesigned, less consistent, less discoverable, even after just a couple of years. removed features too. more nagging interactions. all apps worse

@jk you might be able to sideload older versions. But if you’re in the US the limit is 3 (or 2 if you use AltStore. Unless you’re jailbroken. I remember when I updated discord and it lost the native iOS share functions, I was devastated. Couldn’t share photos without actually opening the app now. As for Mastodon, if you ever used Twitterific in the past, Feditext is really good. It’s a continuation of MetaText. It’s current in beta via testflight.

@jk in a world of my dreams, there should always be two update versions, to choose freely: - Security patch only - Changes in Frontend and behavior. (With explanation of details.) Imagine the tons of workingtime worldwide, people will not loose with "searching where they hide my favorite function this time" or "in which hook of the monitor is the logout now placed" alone. And just getting used to it in the workflow after some month, it will change again ... and yes, mostly worse.
