  One of the things that annoys me about America is that it's almost impossible to buy any kind of pickle that doesn't have dill in it. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike dill, but I don't want dill every time I want a pickle. There is a whole world of pickles that aren't kosher dill (cucumber) pickles or pickled Jalapeño chiles, but you'd never know that from the shelves of most mainstream American markets.

  I finally used up the years-old batch of Pure Leaf brand English Breakfast Tea, so now I'm back to the Tea India Assam CTC tea. I've been drinking so much more icea tea lately that I need to up my game, because while it tastes so much better than instant iced tea powder, it takes a lot longer to make. I nee to wash out a second half-gallon Mason jar, so I can make iced tea in advance, once I empty the first one. At a pint of tea at a time, a half-gallon jars only holds four glasses.

  Speaking of dip pen inks, I was thinking about the Winsor & Newton Drawing inks, and I had to struggle to remember that they have two different black "Indian inks", one of which is shellac based and therefore waterproof (Black Indian Ink), and one of which is glue based and therefore non-waterproof (Liquid Indian Ink, which they actually say is a liquid form of Chinese stick ink, and is labelled as Chinese ink in French). #artsupplies

  I love Japanese Nambu cast iron ware, so of course I also love this Peugeot cast iron pepper mill (made in France), but the price they are asking for it is a bit silly. $85 USD MSRP, $78 on Amazon. Not that I need it, anyway. I don't really have a proper dining table or guests to impress, and I've got several perfectly good Kuhn Rikon ceramic grinders. It's just so pretty, though.

  Watching the latest video from Slow Commute Club, it dawned on me that the reason I am so indifferent to #bicycle or multiuse paths is because I've mostly lived my life in places where they don't exist, or in places where the traffic on them was so dense with pedestrians that riding bicycles on them is impractical/intrusive.   I love the aesthetic of the #TravelersNotebook, but the reality is, they just don't work the way I do. I want and need the flexibility of being able to insert and remove *individual pages*, and for that, nothing beats a #Filofax. I use a Personal Size (95 x 171 mm, or 3.75 x 6.75 in) Week on One Page Diary in my Filofax, and in-between each spread of two weeks, I have inserted a clear Filofax ruler/page marker, and my custom 85 mm width in-between list pages, punched both sides.

  It's about time for me to start once again thinking about taking my cooler shopping with me on my bicycle, again. Despite the fact that we are still under localized frost warnings, this week, the weather is warm enough during the days that I don't want to buy frozen food without my cooler and ice bottles. This brings me to another point about car camping. One of the things that I dislike about cars is the fact that unless they are parked out of the sun, they heat up alarmingly.

  I have not purchased motor vehicle fuel since August 2020. That's over 67 months. If I drove 1,000 miles a month in a car that got 25 mpg, I'd have burned through 2,680 gallons of gasoline in that time. At today's local price of about $4/gal, that's $10,720 USD I've saved just in gasoline alone.
