@tamami@sfba.social we have a ghost in our house. When we first moved in she would throw our boxes of tea across the kitchen. She stopped doing that after we changed where we keep the tea. Most recently she hid a box of soup broth for about a month.

@tamami@sfba.social Not an experience, but I can offer that "The Moonlit Road," a short ghost story by Ambrose Bierce, inspired "In a Grove" (藪の中) by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, which in turn inspired the film "Rashomon" by Kurosawa Akira.

@tamami@sfba.social I don’t have a story for you - sorry - but I too enjoy those stories. There’s a podcast by Danny Robbins which has plenty of these which you might enjoy. It’s called Uncanny and has all manner of odd happening related by those who experienced them. I really like it and hope you will too.

@tamami@sfba.social When my half sister was little, in the 1990s, she had a Teddy Ruxpin, you know, the teddy bear with a tape player in it's belly that would move it's mouth and wave it's arms when the player was playing. Except my half-sister's Teddy Ruxpin would talk and move on it's own. So one night, when she was supposed to be asleep in bed, dad heard voices coming from her room late, like 10 or 11 pm. So he went to tell her to go to sleep, but saw she was having a conversation with Teddy. Dad told her to stop but she said "Adam doesn't want to sleep." Who's Adam, that was her name for Teddy. Teddy spoke up "I'm not going to sleep." Teddy had no tape or batteries in him. Dad took Teddy away and Teddy kept playing and talking. Dad sunk Teddy in a 5-gallon bucket of paint and drove out to the desert to leave Teddy. Who knows what happened to Teddy. Before destroying and ditching Teddy, they'd had a bunch of weird stuff go down at their house, spices would be moved around, lights going on in the middle of the night, just random shit that they couldn't explain. After removing Teddy that stuff stopped.

@tamami@sfba.social My mom has a fascination with the dead and celebrities, and growing up a couple hours from Los Angeles, we often went to LA to do things like go to the cemeteries to find the resting places of dead celebrities. Totally normal thing to do, right? One time we visited the children's section of a cemetery, I don't remember why, but I got an eerie feeling leaving there that day. Then stuff would happen at home. The washing machine would turn on in the middle of the night, dishes would be pulled out of the cabinet, lights would flicker, and alarm clocks would randomly go off in the middle of the night. Mom finally had enough and one night after the alarm went off in the middle of the night, said out loud "come to school with me tomorrow, you'll make lots of friends there." (she was kindergarten teacher)She's not even sure why she said this, but it worked. The following day nothing happened at homed, and the night passed uneventfully. When mom went to work the day after, the kids' art had been rearranged, and paint jars were open. The whole time she taught at that school, weird stuff would happen after hours, but I guess the ghost was happy.

@tamami@sfba.social This one isn't as ghostly as the others. When I was a teenager, my grandpa died. He had been on a trip to Greece and Crete, and died sitting down on a tour of the Acropolis. This was the middle of the night for where I was in California. The night he died, I dreamed that he came to my room, and rubbed my back like he did when I was sick when I was little. I told him he couldn't be here because he was on vacation. He said he just wanted to say goodbye and that if I ever needed him, to just ask for him and he would take care of me. I woke up to mom crying and shaking me awake. "Dad's here" she said. I was confused. I was even more confused when dad was in the house (my parent's divorced when I was toddler, and dad had never set foot in mom's house again until this moment). And then it clicked. The dream came screaming back. I knew what dad was gonna say. I really think grandpa came back to say goodbye to me. I didn't cry at his funeral, I knew I was gonna be okay.
