@chris_colvin@mastodon.social ditching an old main account of google. just keeping secondary account for posting of youtube clips of bird observations. Hardest is to ditch google maps.... working on that.

@chris_colvin I do have my banking app that does not work on Lineageos. Therefore occasionally use a separate phone with google for my banking needs.

@chris_colvin Deleted my account but I still use Maps and YouTube regularly. Google Earth sometimes. I don't see myself cutting these out anytime soon

@chris_colvin The only one I still use regularly is YouTube. Occasionally I use Maps but only if I need Streetview. I'd love to get rid of both and be able to say that I'm completely Google free, but alas, the alternatives just don't have the content.

@chris_colvin Well, that's 1-3 as my mobiles are still the standard Android as the Moto G6Plus and the Xperia XZ2 Premium came with. Both still too good to replace. And on the Xperia I don't want to screw up the camera and video.

@chris_colvin Occasional use of Lens (live image translation of signs and labels) and Maps (for additional info not always found on CoMaps and others). A few people still have my old Gmail address (but I access it with Thunderbird). Everything else is gone and locked out.

@chris_colvin I only have a few gmail "burner" addresses, which do nothing but forward. And on my phone Android, as there isn't much choice, especially since I am also very allergic to anything Apple.

@chris_colvin YouTube, Maps, Keep would be the three I still use somewhat actively. Though the latter two only for very specific use-cases, which are far smaller than what I used to use them for. Gmail still exists, but those are really just still there to catch the occasional leftover mail. And, well, Play Store, if absolutely necessary. Used to be way more and I'm certainly always on the lookout on how to reduce this even further.

@chris_colvin I’m still on Gmail, my car’s built-in nav uses Google Maps, and I very occasionally watch videos on YouTube (but the app has gotten so bad that it’s got to be something I really want to watch). I also have client work that requires me to manage a couple Google Workspace accounts, and so I do have some Google Drive usage for work.

@chris_colvin Definitely trying to reduce it as much as possible. I will work on my email next. (I am so happy to not be using google search engine anymore, realized how stupid it is whenever I use another browser!) I’m using Vivaldi as my browser now, and their search thing called start page

@chris_colvin I am Stuck with Google Maps. So far there is none else that work with current traffic and circumnavigates traffic jams. If I am mistaken, do tell. I am also off Meta.

@chris_colvin @mayintoronto I sometimes use Google Search (although it's not my primary search engine any more), and I infrequently consult Google Maps, especially for Streetview. And the work phone is Android because work is not going to pay extra there (but I don't actually use it¹). ¹ it's a backup for our VoIP phones, runs the mandatory authenticator app™, and gives me a test Android device. The path of least resistance with it was a Google account with bonus GMail, that I ignore.

@chris_colvin - Maps (local services discovery just isn't as broad on the open source platforms) - Wallet (not a lot of options for tap-to-pay in the US) - Home (hooked up to home assistant for voice. I'd like to change that this year) - Assistant (timers, music, texting while driving) - Meet video calling w/ spouse (would like to change. Matrix or Nextcloud talk perhaps) - Android auto (again, no real good options)
