#WritersCoffeeClub 8. What's the last thing you read which motivated you to write? The book I'm currently reading: tome 3 of the early diary of Anaïs Nin (1923-27). This is the point where she starts trying to write novels and plays herself, and it's both relatable, inspiring, and humbling at the same time. Relatable because of her doubts about her own writing, and inspiring/humbling because she wrote so much or so well.

Hey all y'all penguins out there, I'm looking for a #Linux distro so give me ALL your recs! * It MUST be able to install and use without an internet connection, and it would be very nice if this was actually easy and doesn't require some arcane wizardry. * It MUST have KDE Plasma. * It would be very nice if it had a strict no-AI contributions policy and excludes known vide-coded software, but I recognize that's getting increasingly hopeless. Still. Would be nice.

#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 3: Is there one piece of well-known writing advice you ignore? "Write what you know." If I could only write what I know, I'd be bored to tears, and the reader would be too. I like to say that I strive to "know what I write" instead. Writing for me is about exploring worlds, lives, and experiences that are different from my own, and that I may not know much about when I start. But hopefully I know a lot more about them when I&...

#WordWeavers 1 Apr: Your opinion on April Fool's Day & do you incorporate the day into your work? I find the kind of joking and teasing that this day promotes exhausting if not outright malicious, so I try to act as if the tradition doesn't exist and just enjoy a lovely spring day.

RE: https://mastodon.world/@davidho/116343238351327543 And we could feed the whole world, and more, with the current state of science. The fact that we're not currently feeding the whole world is not because we can't, or don't know how, or because science has failed us. It's too many vested interests, perverse incentives, egoism, greed and ingrown habits that keep us from feeding the world.

#WritersCoffeeClub 7 Apr: Do you combine poetic fragments and prose paragraphs in your work? Absolutely! In my WIP it's mostly in the form of spells, since I feel like spoken magic ought to be at least a little poetic. Just shouting "I cast fireball!" or "Flamius Ballius!" may be fine in a D&D game (or certain wizard books who shall not be named), but I like to get a bit more creative. My characters occasionally sing, too, and Leila even reci...

#WordWeavers 7 Apr: Look around and describe an object as if it were a mysterious item. Before you stands what looks like a small obelisk, brightly painted with geometric patterns of a clearly mystical nature. However, the pyramidal top is unusually narrow, to an extreme degree, in fact can't really be described as pyramidal at all, and white like the tip of an iceberg, which it also does not resemble. On further inspection this monolith is not made of stone but a softer, smoother mater...

#ScribesAndMakers 12 Mar: Our featured creator has an em dash key on his keyboard. Do you do any customizations for your creativity? I've set up the Pause key (which isn't used for anything else anyway) to be a Compose key, which means I can create all sorts of characters with it. Em dash is Pause and then three regular dashes. Ellipsis is Pause and then two dots. I can usually guess other sequences because they tend to be fairly logical, for example ♥ is Pause, <, 3 and...

#WritersCoffeeClub 13 Mar: Talk about an experience when you consulted an expert for a piece of writing. Finding experts is an eternal challenge as someone with practically zero connections. I did manage to find a medical doctor through a friend who was willing to answer a bunch of my weird medical questions for book 1, but while her answers were indeed very helpful, she wasn't a specialist in the exact medical subfields my questions were about so she could only help so much with some...
