  One of my favorite developments in technology lately is that it is now consistently easier and more successful to print things from my phone than from my computer. To the point that I’ve multiple times finished working on a document on my computer, then picked up my phone to find it in cloud storage and print it. I have been working in IT, specifically including managing network printers for Mac and Linux users, for nearly 25 years.

  Exactly this. Perhaps I’m lucky to have grown up in the Bay Area during the dotcom boom, and then bust. Not only did I own what would probably now be quite valuable pets.com merchandise, I then went on to go to break-in raves in the abandoned offices that were the corpses of these ventures. Perhaps because of this, I’ve always been very skeptical of the technological fads that I’ve since watched so many businesses chase, even when it wasn’t clear how they’d actually benefit their business in the...

  Our dog is very smart, but she struggles a bit with spatial reasoning. She knows that the stairs can take her to many different places: upstairs, downstairs, and basement. However she much prefers the stairs that go up to the second floor, which are wide and straight, to the basement stairs, which are narrow and twisty. To the point that she will watch my wife go down the basement stairs, and then run up the main stairs to meet her. Why don’t the good stairs just always go where she wants them...

  Weird thing I saw this morning: a rented tour bus speeding through West #Baltimore with a police escort blocking intersections ahead of them so they wouldn’t need to stop. I can’t really think of any non-bad reason this would happen.
