@mvsde i want to learn about these things. I don't know how to use them or what all of these abbreviations even are. I'd love to communicate over these kinds of channels more. Love to learn how to find stuff, find community , find content there. but it always seemed to me like it was a domain of tech people. Can you point me to a resource written for non techs? Practical?

@mvsde to be fair, in the age of DDoS by AI and rising hosting costs, quite a lot of the boring internet is also dying. although i guess dying gives the wrong implication. it's being killed.

@mvsde Can you provide an assurance no AI was used in the writing of this?

@mvsde @tg I'm not technically minded to understand your article- but the Internet is awful these days - instagram used to be great but virtually unusable now as every other post is an ad and most people don't use stills anymore- I can't stand reel after reel. I left Twitter for good after the nazi salute (I was pretty addicted๐Ÿ˜†) The good side is that I use it less I guess

@mvsde @tg I think that for the people who have gravitated to the big platforms the convenience and approachability are the main factors. Us computer nerds need to start standing up our own instances and services for our communities so that not everyone feels they have to climb the vertical cliff of becoming a sys admin and every other thing. I've been building up a VM running a CMS, an IRC daemon and client, and a calendar server and I hope that will be enough to bring a group together.

@mvsde @tg Truly agree. Internet is a network with more and more virtual entities / bots / AI agents. Human virtual abilities appears to be declining sharply. This is what we see directly. Previous Internet was a sandbox for humanity. Now it's a bot race at the first.

@mvsde@mastodon.social @tg@indieweb.social My tiny quibble is email. Yes the protocol is open, but many receivers will not accept from "unapproved" sources, and satisfying the gatekeepers is non-trivial. Also as I recall, I abandoned my Markov Chain spam filter and happily gave the job to Google. I would not voluntarily choose to move back, although Google might choose for me. Nonetheless, SMTP is open so any funded staffed body could take it on. I hope they do ๐Ÿ˜Š
