My second #BandcampFriday pickup this month (good thing it runs after midnight, haha) is Bird Hide, a dose of dreamy, trancelike jazz-tronic flute ambience from Jak (aka Jem and Kent), the latter half of which is Mastodon's own @kentparkstreet1@mastodon.online This one is going straight to the "late afternoon to late evening ambience" pile. So damn fine. 😎 https://jakflute.bandcamp.com/album/bird-hide

RE: https://mastodon.social/@tonylongworth/117050334484499312 Aha! I've enjoyed streaming quite a few tracks as they were released individually but was waiting til this album was complete before the lot, so #BandcampFriday is the perfect time. Tony is a sonic wizard, scoring the soundtrack for the #HeartOfNeon documentary amongst many other musical goodies, and is well worth checking out, especially if you like darker alternative and soundtrack-vibes. 😎

#MayThe4th is here once more, so here's a little #StarWars videogame history for the few possibly interested - an interview I did with Jack Yarwood at @timeextension.com back in 2023, about developing #NES Star Wars for Lucasfilm. #MayThe4thBeWithYou https://www.timeextension.com/features/flashback-how-an-australian-developer-helped-lucasfilm-make-its-first-star-wars-game

Tired of the platypus being framed as "weird". All we hear is speciesist anti-platypus bias: "Oh haha, they have a duck's bill and feet, a beaver's tail, lay eggs like reptiles and have venom like snakes. Ridiculous!" It's well past time we started describing ducks as having webbed feet and bills like a platypus, beavers as having platypus tails, that reptiles lay eggs just like the platypus, and snakes can inflict venom like, you guessed it, a platypus. #TeamP...

Absolutely gutted. It was MΓ‘ire's voice and harp that first awakened/reawakened my love for folk, first via the Robin of Sherwood soundtrack as a teen, then picking up Magical Ring and Macalla. From there my tastes in folk both trad and contemporary spiralled out in all directions, which continues to this day. Only saw Clannad live twice, but they were magic. I knew she'd had a lot of troubles along the way though, and hope she found peace. #folk #music #FolkMusic https://www...

Returned to my replay of #ProfessorLayton and the Curious Village that I started some time last year... only to discover I'd left it on the eighth (of nine) chapters and probably should have pushed through to the finish back then. Anyway, a couple of hours' puzzling this evening, and the mystery of St. Mystere is a mystery no more... πŸ˜‰ #NintendoDS

Finally got to read 'Thunder City' by @PhilipReeve and I think it might just be my favourite Mortal Engines novel since the very first. A genuinely thrilling adventure story that also hit me right in the feels at one particular point. So good. Can't wait for sequel 'Bridge of Storms', which I have on preorder. 😎 #books #MortalEngines

Today I watched the highly-rated cult comedy 'Hundreds of Beavers'. Being a fan of the creative and quirky generally, I expected to like it, possibly even love it, but certainly more than a couple of friends who had seen it previously and refused to commit beyond, "It's an experience. You should at least give it a go." So I did. Oh. 😬 #films https://letterboxd.com/civilmadman/film/hundreds-of-beavers/

Every now and then it's good to go down the rabbit hole of folk music from the island of Jinsy. Take it away, Master Croog and Julian. #ThisIsJinsy https://youtu.be/Sc72mWqZTpM?si=vCMde0Ua8uelMwgl
