  I need to rework my zen browser install on Manjaro. Every time I update, it compiles the entire browser from source. Takes hours. I keep saying I'll change it to a precompiled binary, but this time for sure.

  Things that have been raised in meetings recently: 2 weeks ago: our numbers of commits, PRs, tickets, show no noticeable velocity improvement that can be traced to our use of AI. Last week: engineer survey, most engineers report a 25-200% increase in productivity with AI This week: The one engineer who refuses to use AI verifiably outperforms every other engineer in productivity. The question asked: how can we get engineers to use AI better to make them more productive? sigh.

  me: we should not expose sensitive info to Claude coworker: we have an enterprise account, they won't use our data for training me: they settled a $1.5B lawsuit for illegally stealing data to train their models. coworker: apples and oranges me: yes, they stole apples, i don't trust them with my oranges (I won this one. yay for small victories)

  I focus so well when I'm in a meeting. Not on the meeting but whatever thing I'm multitasking on during the meeting. If I'm not in a meeting, I'm all over the place. I get so much done on other stuff when I'm in a meeting. Sometimes I wonder about myself.

  Been working my way through the LeCarre novels and as I complete one that has a movie or TV series attached, I watch that. Just finished The Night Manager. It was very well done. They followed the book very closely for the first 2/3, and then went utterly rogue. But it worked. I think they lost a lot of LeCarre's intended message, but to be fair, the series ending was a lot more satisfying than the book.

  Wandered over to LinkedIn. I learned that AI is going to replace everyone. And the best thing to do about it is deep dive into AI and rely on it for every thing. Then you'll be so good at AI that nobody will consider replacing you. Solid strategy there.

  There's been a push to make sure everyone is using AI at work. So I've been reluctantly using it now and then. I had to make a handful of UI changes across different areas of the app. Rather than digging in and finding them, I asked Claude where to find those in the code and what change to make.   There's a management trend towards "pushing people outside of their comfort zone". It never really sat right with me (as a manager). Yes, people need to grow and be challenged, but it's not up to your manager to determine what your comfort zone is and how far they can push you outside of it. 1/x

  Good engineer manager day. Four years ago I hired an engineer. She said her goal was to work for a while as a developer, then become a Tech Lead and eventually become an engineering manager. We've executed on that plan and as of today she is no longer my report but my peer. And I could not be any prouder.
