There&#39;s a management trend towards &quot;pushing people outside of their comfort zone&quot;. It never really sat right with me (as a manager). Yes, people need to grow and be challenged, but it&#39;s not up to your manager to determine what your comfort zone is and how far they can push you outside of it. 1/x

I'm not talking about someone slacking off and not doing their job. I've had engineers who are amazing and looked up to and do great things, and other managers tell me that that person is "too comfortable" and needs to be pushed outside of their comfort zone. And I'm like why? They're productive, they're making things better, they are happy, everyone appreciates them and looks up to them? Do they need to be uncomfortable to prove that they are doing enough? 2/x

@bit101 I presume the ideal push back is to suggest something like the three of you should do a Tandem Parachute Jump together. Or similar, the point is to consider if the argument is valid beyond commercial exploitation, or just a way for rinsing an individual who is doing a good job but enjoying life outside work rather than being fully exploited. Well do not know the full context but given your thoughts maybe the skydive( or similar ) is ideal push back giving the critic a revised perspective?
