@lothcat For myself I would like to be rich enough for a permanent home, not necessarily large a 3 roomer is fine, in Tazacorte or the likes. At that point I'd be content to spend remaining riches on mutual aid toots and charities.

@lothcat Yes - broadly concur. To me, being rich would be about hearing someone is struggling, and saying "What can I do to help? Do you want to come and stay for a week? Can i order you something?" It is always about helping other people, in their own crisis. Providing support for people who need it. And - longer term - looking to see what I can do to make peoples lives better. Can I buy up properties to rent, at low rental? Can I invest in peoples companies?

@lothcat It's odd how very rich people seem often to be thinking about money all the time, and worrying about it, and having to step out of things to deal with it., and having opinions on it. It seems weirdly like being poor. I think there must be a sweet-spot somewhere. Being rich should mean not having to think about money because you've enough.

@lothcat There was an NPR story in 2019ish that happiness increases with income up until about 75,000 USD, which is the point where the curve falls off and further increase is marginal. People with just enough not to worry about money we're happiest while rich people were never satisfied. They had some asshole economist they were interviewing about it and he got so mad when they brought up the study and just insisted "nuh uh nuh uh NUH UH!!""

@lothcat Oh, what is that from? That totally sums it up. I don't want money for money's sake, I just want to be able to not worry and for bonus points be able to do nice things for other people. I don't really want have a big hoard of money to buy stuff I don't need.* * Except a Batmobile. I do dream of owning a working replica of the Adam West-era Batmobile. But it would be an EV so as not to be as bad for the environment. Still gonna make flames come out the back, though.

@lothcat Reminds me of the society in Ursula K. LeGuin's "Always Coming Home" who considered you poor if you had a lot of stuff, and rich if you did not, because the natural thing to do with a lot of stuff is give it away, It wasn't just that hoarding stuff earned you the reputation of being miserly and maybe a little wrong in the head, though it did - the hoarding was considered a symptom of actual poverty. I think I need to reread that book now.
