  @emilyvanartist@mastodon.social @beandreams@friendhole.social We used to cut the bottoms off the bull kelp and spin it really fast to make tones. You could shift the tones by cutting them shorter or longer and when you get a bunch of people together it's amazing.

  I learned how to make cornbread when I was 14 years old. I've tried many others, but the first one I learned to make and eventually adapted to gluten free is still my all time favourite and maybe my favourite comfort food in rainy summer weather. #ouchThatsTasty

  I deal with a lot of grief surrounding my MECFS. People who knew me in the before times, knew I always had about six things on the go - At least two jobs, a very active band and volunteering with a harvest collective and music projects as well as studying kung fu for nine years.   Irish and gaillige speaking friends, I'm changing my last name to my great grandmother's maiden name, which I know would have been prefaced with ní, but I'm agender so that feels a little weird, and I could go with the O' but I'm wondering if there's ever been a non gendered preface for names in Irish language, or if maybe there is one created now? I know it's maybe a long shot, but I would love to find out if I have an option, otherwise I may just run with O'....

  Very excited to have found a stool I can use to sit while cooking. It means maybe I might be able to cook a little more often, and will give respite on the days my batteries disappear halfway through cooking and all I want to do is crumple into a ball on the floor.   Thinking about how I didn't realize how privileged I was as a teenager to have a grandad who was a former airplane mechanic in the military. Anytime my shitty $200 car was broken he would just say "bring it over". My car repairs were always out there, like he used pop cans to fix my exhaust system, but they literally never broke down after he'd done whatever he was gonna do.   Was thinking about how nearly all my trans friends use signal for communications, but how convincing my cis friends (save a couple who are pretty aware of the world, and one who is a journalist) to do so has been an exhausting effort to the point that I don't even bother anymore. The biggest argument is "but why????" from the safety bubble of a group of people who have never even glimpsed a thought of being persecuted for their own existence.

  Hey lovelies! It's becoming blatantly apparent that the age of search engines is dead. I was thinking back to how I functioned finding things before them: usually bookmarked or scribbled down links to good sites. Do you have any favourites? Wayback and internet archive, of course. Could we compile a list of resource sites for fedi users somehow? Categorized I would guess? I think there are enough of us here with special interests that it would be a work of art in the long run.

  The first year here was a real slog. @ana was destroyed by basically having to do a move without movers by herself with the assistance of some amazing friends, and my MECFS had another massive flare when we did. But, we've been slowly building our garden over the last two years and this spring when I go outside what was once a gravel parking lot is buzzing with bees, hummingbirds and predatory helpers. We are both slowly recovering and the work we need to do outside is slowing down....

  Every so often we have a perfect PNW morning where the petrichor is perfection-The subtle blend of the icy brine of clams and oysters, cedar boughs, flower pollen, rain and fresh split wood, sometimes a hint of wood smoke. It's pure heaven and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Since I was a tiny child this the scent of home. I'm standing out in the garden in the rain just to take it in.
