Was thinking about how nearly all my trans friends use signal for communications, but how convincing my cis friends (save a couple who are pretty aware of the world, and one who is a journalist) to do so has been an exhausting effort to the point that I don't even bother anymore. The biggest argument is "but why????" from the safety bubble of a group of people who have never even glimpsed a thought of being persecuted for their own existence.

@RobotDiver@starlite.rodeo I'm straight and white and have much less need than some people to worry about persecution, but I take extreme offence at the assumption made by tech companies (and supported by many governments) that they have the right to know everything - or even anything - about me, information they can monetize but I can't. Signal makes a whole lot of sense to me. (I have also had trouble convincing friends, though - many of them are perfectly happy with FB Messenger. FB! I got off FB years ago.)
