Today the wildfire smoke in the air from the North is thick enough to block out some of the sun beating down on #ThisOldClownHouse. It's a weirdly mixed win, as the air quality is terrible yet cooler than we feared. At the moment, I'm grateful to @SocialGaff@cathode.church for having done an excellent job of redoing the weather stripping on the doors. We're expecting some rain by the end of the weekend, so hopefully that will help both problems.

First of May is something of a clown holiday. It was traditionally was the start of circus contracts for the year. As a result, it was also used as a way to describe inexperienced clown, similar to how we say &quot;newbie&quot; today. I&#39;m happy to always be a First of May, a complete newb, or anything else that keeps my cynicism at bay.

I don't know what you computer touching weirdos have done to my brain... I just finished writing 500 some-odd lines of (terrible) #Perl using nothing more than my brain, several websites filled with helpful examples, and a copy of #vi. I would feel empowered and wizardly if I wasn't too busy being baffled.

And here&#39;s another cool vi trick I found! You can append to a file rather than overwriting it by prefixing &gt;&gt; to the filename: :w &gt;&gt;appendtofilename This can work on parts of a buffer by prefixing line numbers or ranges: 2,+1w &gt;&gt;appendfilename...
