First of May is something of a clown holiday. It was traditionally was the start of circus contracts for the year.
As a result, it was also used as a way to describe inexperienced clown, similar to how we say "newbie" today.
I'm happy to always be a First of May, a complete newb, or anything else that keeps my cynicism at bay.
