asking for #advice again, sorry. i'm now officially #diabetic (type 2) and looking to control it with diet. (hence the last request for advice.) information about nutrition on the internet has always been a hot mess, more so in these days of so-called "Al". can anyone reccomend an _authoritative_ source on the amount of carbohydrate in basic foods? searching online i see *wildly* different numbers for, eg, potato. i don't mind buying a book. feel free to boost.

#microfiction Once i had all the safety gear on – and there was a lot – they led me to a giant steel door. "I thought," I said, having to raise my voice to be heard through the layers of padding in the helmet, "that you were hiring an IT manager?" "We are," they said, beckoning me over and throwing open a little port in the door. They indicated that I should look through the port. Hot red light poured through it. "Behold: IT.&am...

37% of americans approve of trump as president. THIRTY-SEVEN PERCENT. i mean, okay, there's some statistical hand-waving in there; it's an average across questions. but. but.

sudden realisation: my biggest lottery win life impovement would be hiring a personal servant. this sounds horrible, but it's horrible to me in an extra way because this person would be, basically, doing all the stuff i can't do any more because i'm … too old and unfit. help me clean the drains? help me get up from the floor? fuck.

#microfiction When the government were onto me, I told the manager this would be my last night tending bar. I told all the customers, too, and gave them all one free cocktail on me, a "special". No more carefully listening to their stories and saving my gift for when the risk was worth it. Didn't cure cancer that night, but it turned out that everyone _did_ need a special. I saw people crying into their drinks because a weight was lifted; hugging strangers; making ea...
