Today I received an email from Supermicro that they've released new BMC firmware and a BIOS for some systems I subscribed to. Nothing special.
That is, until I noticed what machine was listed. Introduced late 2015/early 2016
I have never purchased whatever support. Both Supermicro and Dell work this way.
HPE does not. They require you to have overzealous support agreements, costing an arm and a leg. No agreement, no BIOS updates for you
In most cases, companies do prefer these support agreements. Having someone to assist you when shit hits the fan for a (relatively) small stack of dough is a no-brainer.
However - this is completely fucked up. It really hurts the second hand market, homelabs, etc. Imagine not being able to patch against nasty silicon-level vulnerabilities because those fuckers want to see 5K of your hard earned cash

Really enjoyed presenting this for MergePHP, if you manage #servers make sure you check out #ansible if you're not using any kind of configuration management tool
Bonus section showing off how #php uses Ansible for its own #infrastructure management and configuration
I have a few days off, will try to clarify and focus biz plan, get a site up that reflects objectives/mission, then get llc, start advertising, do the tech consulting but also develop some products
opnsense
debian
malcolm
enc persistent nvme in various flavors (debian blends style)
that is basically the linecard plus add a sprinkling of pihole consulting, vps/vpn stuff

How full of shit can one be to claim that #Minecraft #Servers are " #illegal "?

I’ve started a new server for those of us obsessed with selfhosting and homelabbing.
If you love tinkering with servers, automating your house, or just hoarding data, come say hi! It’s a chill place to learn, share, and troubleshoot together.
