Less than 2 months to go until the #RC2014Assembly 2.0 Last year was the first meetup specifically for owners of #RC2014 or similar kits, and it was a fantastic day out. The national Museum Of Computing is a wonderful venue too, and the RC2014 Assembly ticket gets you full access to the museum too. Tomorrow will be exactly 10 years since I sent out the first #RC2014 Newsletter. That went out to 130 people, but the list has grown to well over 10 times that now. Mailchimp lets you go back and read previous issues, but this is capped to the most recent 20 - which only gets you back to Issue 48 So I've set up an archive on the RC2014 website that goes right back to Issue 1. The audio in this video is a little soft, so be grateful for small mercies. I have been working on a secret project, which is to put the ZX Spectrum BEEP code into ROM for the #RC2014 Orton 3C. By coincidence, I found that I was using a tune from Star Wars on the day before Star Wars Day and so I went for it today and made a complete medley. (Yes my Orton 3C is fitted with the 3C-PO shim...) I wrote my first blog post about this before I'd added the ROM, so it was a pretty pure 3-chip 'all code and data toggled in' project at that point. My journey with SID and the Z80 started way, way back in 2002, working out how to get it to play happily when connected to a fast Zilog Z80 bus on the SAM Coupe, rather than the MOS6510 it was designed for. 2003 saw the first commercial version of my SID Interface for the SAM Coupe. It's had a few tweaks in the years since and is still available. In 2020 I was asked if the interface would work on the RC2014 (Thanks Shiela!). Replied no, but then a few weeks later, yes!, having redesigned the interface in a version specifically for the RC2014 bus and integrating an interrupt controller for 50/60/100Hz - ideal for use with other soundchips too! This version has also had a few tweaks over the last six years since release, currently on v1.3. Can't add photos due to the 'quote' so will add a reply to this post with photos... I’ve been using a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 to spy on my #RC2014 Orton 3C’s data bus. At the moment this just displays the hex value it can currently see. This means I can make sure the values I’ve toggled in are correct without having to mentally convert from binary.
