Farmers in six districts of Paktia province were provided with cherry saplings by the province’s Department of Agriculture to expand commercial cherry orchards. The Governor of Paktia: Gardez city is our shared home; we must work together for the beauty and development of our city. Date: 2024/10/20 AH The Governor of Paktia, Hajj Mullah Mehrullah Hamad, stated that Gardez city is the shared home of all and that joint efforts between the people and officials must be strengthened for the beauty and development of the city. The Governor made these remarks yesterday in a meeting with officials from the city’s trade unions and tribal elders. At the beginning of the meeting, the representative of the Gardez City Trade Union Association said that Gardez city has seen remarkable changes and numerous foundational projects have been implemented thanks to the sound leadership of the provincial administration and the professional services of the municipality. He assured that they would intensify efforts in controlling prices and implementing urban principles and also requested more developmental projects. The Governor of Paktia, in addition to praising the attendees, said: “Coordination between the people and officials is a fundamental principle for the establishment of the system and nation-building. Gardez city is our shared home, so we must work together for its beauty and development.” He added that just as the people, national traders, and tribal elders cooperated with the mujahideen during the occupation, they must continue their cooperation in strengthening the system, advancing the country, reforming society, and educating the younger generation. The Provincial Administration of Paktia Province states that consecutive days of rain and floods have destroyed 570 homes, partially or completely, in the province's central district and several other districts. A press release from the Provincial Administration reports that approximately 30 livestock have died due to the rainfall and floods, and nearly 110 hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed. Several other areas are now facing a serious threat of destruction. According to Fitrat, the attacks destroyed 1,140 houses, 256 shops, 34 mosques, 13 schools, three clinics, 13 madrasas, and 42 vehicles. An additional 661 head of livestock were also killed. Fitrat further stated that Pakistani forces fired 14,973 artillery and mortar shells at civilian homes along the so-called Durand Line during the same period, displacing 27,407 families. The deadliest single incident, according to the spokesperson, was an attack on an addiction treatment center in Kabul, which left 411 people martyred and 265 others injured. Recent heavy rains and floods have caused casualties and property damage in Paktia province, in its center and districts. Date: 1447/10/15 AH Heavy rains and subsequent floods during Wednesday and Thursday have caused casualties and property damage in the center of Paktia province (Gardiz) and 14 districts. The damage occurred in the center of Paktia province (Gardiz), as well as the Janikhel, Ahmadkhel, Patan, Chamakniyo, Lajha Mangal, Garde Chareh, and Waze Zadrani districts. According to initial reports, one person has been killed in the center of the province and two others have been injured in the Janikhel and Waze Zadrani districts. The floods have also severely damaged people's homes, with 24 residential homes, one mihrab (prayer niche) in a mosque, and 2 rural shops completely or partially destroyed in Gardiz, Chamakniyo, Garde Chareh, Janikhel, Waze Zadrani, Dandi Patan, Lajha Mangal, and Ahmadkhel districts. Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad, a spokesman for Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said that the affected provinces—Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Ghor, Samangan, and Sar-i-Pul—experienced severe weather during this time. In Faryab, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunar, and Laghman, six people were martyred and seven others wounded.
