Baby owls, not always cute. Sometimes, they look like death warmed over, right after waking up but before the coffee is ready. My sister calls this his "mouldy strawberry" phase. My friends, as it is Superb Owl day, I would like to show a more recent picture of Baked Beans, taken back in January. He now has his adult plumage and is quite majestic, particularly since he's all sticky-uppy. Heyguysheyguysheyguys LOOK AT THIS OWL! HE IS SO UPSETTY!!! There are 2 baby penguins who are staying in a pen in the hall. They're also going to be ambassador birds, so all the keepers are encouraged to pick them up and cuddle them multiple times a day to get them used to people. Just a few days ago my mother-in-law was asking me, "now that you are retired, do you think you will do bird photography?" and while I said something polite in response, my mind was thinking "I can't decide if birding or watching golf is more boring". Anyway, then a barred owl showed up just outside the window. We could clearly hear it calling "to-wit-to-woo" before we saw it.
