Things you don't learn about #Nashville in the 21st century without looking back at turn of the 20th century #history: between Fisk faculty and Vanderbilt students and settlement houses it was a focal point of the “Social Gospel” and racial reform. And the debates between W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were a catalyst for these Nashville movements. Nashville's Bethlehem House, a downtown settlement house, was established under the leadership of Fisk alum Sallie Hill Sawyer, and sustained with the help of the founder of the Fisk Sociology Dept and social work program, George Haynes, who was also a Social Gospel proponent.

I'll be in #Nashville July 20th–July 31st helping with the final stages of a physical network deployment. My hotel and the deployment site are both near the airport, so I'm only anticipating having time over the weekend (the 24th/25th/26th) to get to the more interesting parts of the city. I'd love recommendations on venues and/or activities. I tend to go for speakeasy-type spots — quiet places with character and possibly a good cocktail or two. Loud and crowded is usually *not* my scene, though I can grin and bear it if there's something worth seeing or doing. And if any of y'all will be in the area, maybe for #SharkFest26, I'd love to try to connect!

For any Nashville bike folks here, we’re going to do a pedal to the polls on Saturday 7/25 (meet up starting at 1:30pm, wheels up 2pm). This is early voting for the August 6th election. I need to figure out what congressional district I’m even in now before then, thanks to the latest ridiculous gerrymandering. We had a small group for the last primary ride and it still totally made the day of the poll workers. #BikeTooter #nashville

We’ve been without power since 09:00 this morning. It’s now after 13:00, and it’s heating up quite a bit outside. Luckily, it’ll only top about 90℉ today, but if NES doesn’t fix the power soon, our home will turn into a sauna. #Nashville

Looking at the outage map, there are about 500 customers without power in Antioch. We heard a loud bang this morning just before the power went out, we think a transformer or substation that services our neighborhood must have blown. #Nashville
