Time for an #introduction post! I've been on Mastodon for nearly four years now, mostly talking about #movies . I write spoiler-free reviews of new releases on my blog and @popculturemaniacs@mastodon.social . I'm looking for additional venues, too. This account will be a central place to find each #MovieReview . My main account is @auzzy@zirk.us , so feel free to follow me over there, too, for more general posting (although still super movie heavy).

So i watched Octopussy(1983) and first things first, what the fuck is that name like why. Anyways something really cool was the minijet in the beginning of the movie that was orignally planned for Moonraker but at the time it was too ambisios. The movie was lowkey so wackass with the island that exclusively only had women, the stupid telesaw gimmig one of the thugs had, the figth at the end where Octopussy's Circus fought Khan's security at his castle thingy(it kinda reminded me of the evil woman in Transporter 2) or how the meating place of the soviet higher ups in that marbel room was so unrealistic like theres no way they would have a room like that Also its goofy how Octopussy's Octopus did a alien move to one of the thugs. Overall this is one of the more wackass 007 movies and its still overshadowed by Moonraker(1979). #fjoxmoviereview #octopussy #jamesbond #mgm #unitedartists #moviereview #80smovie #movie #scifi #spyfi #action #adventure

So I watched For Your Eyes Only(1981) and first things first, wtf was the beginning scene where 007 just kills a crippled Blofeld by throwing him down a chimney of a abandoned factory with a helicopter like tf. Overall it was a rather meh 007 movie. Theres was wackass stuff like how the burglar protection on 007's lotus just makes the entire car explode when the window is smashed, the guns on the motorbike that are in the headlights are completely unrealistic or how 007 and that east German athlete go down a bobski lane and almost catch up with the bobski. You cant review this movie and forget about Kristatos 1000iq play where he is actually the bad guy and fools british and 007 and says that his rival Columbo is the bad guy working with the soviets and smuggling heroine and stuff like that. Also all the scenes in the mountains remind me of On Her Majesty's Secret Service(1969). Overall a rather mid 007 movie thats completely overshadowed by Moonraker(1979). #fjoxmoviereview #foryoureyesonly #jamesbond #mgm #unitedartists #moviereview #80smovie #movie #scifi #spyfi #action #adventure

So I just watched Kill Bill Vol. 1+2 and this was the first Quentin Tarantino movie I watched and well its a fucking doozy. The over the top blood splatter, japan from the jet looks like a 90s arcade game that got a high res texture upgrade, the entire chapter where she goes to that chinese kung fu guy is so bad its got to be a parody of old kung fu movies, how elle has a fucking seizure when Beatrix rips her eye out or all the black and white scenes, in some scenes they use theyer soundboard allot and then forget it for most of the rest of the movie or the end of vol 2 where they use 60s methods to recording Beatrix driving the car and that shit ain't even centered properly. Also Vol.2 lowkey just feels stretched, like couldn't Tarantino just do a Kubrick and make the movie like 3+ hours long instead of 2 2hour movies where the 2nd one feels stretched. And finally i cant forget the ammount of meme sounds that orignate from Vol.1, its crazy. This isn't a bad movie but it's not a really good one too, it belongs in this wierd class of movies where 2001 a space odyssey belongs to. #fjoxmoviereview #killbill #quentintarantino #miramax #movie #2000smovie #action #moviereview

So I watched The Spy Who Loved Me(1977). Its starts out of a submarine scene(haha Das Boot reference) and a few scenes later we see 007 escaping KGB agents in the mountains of austria to some beegees style 007 theme. The credit thingy in the beginning was wackass tho, it lowkey just got worse and worse since live and let die. Anyways some cool things in this movie: this is the first movie that has a tracked matte painting, the sea base was pretty cool and the fight scene in the tanker was just massive. Now to the wackass shit: the fight scene where 007 fights Sandor that was lame af or the was Jaws kills his victims in some vampire twilight type shit way or how Jaws literally can just teleport around like wtf, he literally drove of a hill with a motorcycle and in the next scene hes back in a car or that wierd ass dialog when James Bond was at the pyramid or how the russain agent is called Tripple X(sus) or how at the end they said the next 007 movie was For Your Eyes Only but then Star Wars happend so they did Moonraker instead. Also this movie feels more like a comedy especially the music at the end makes it feel like a joke. Other stuff: the submarine car reminded me of that one scene from Despicable Me. Overall its a sligthly better then the last 007 movie. #fjoxmoviereview #thespywholovedme #jamesbond #mgm #unitedartists #moviereview #70smovie #movie

Todays Movie: The Man with the Golden Gun(1974). First of all the intro thingy where they used to roll credits backthen, that was wackass thought the theme was better then with the previus movie. Another thing that i didnt really like was the addition of "Down Syndrome Sherif" in two scenes. Also who tf goes to bangkok to look at american cars and why the hell does amc make cars. Though the boat chase that was one theese Vietnamese race boats and the follwing car chase was cool where James Bond does some evel knievel type shit. What wasnt cool though is the stupid sound effects they added to that stunt. Now lets talk about Scaramanga's island, the type of shitzoid shit thats in there is wackass. Also its goofy how 007 kills Scaramanga by pretending to be a wax statue of himself that Scaramanga has for soem wackass reason. Speaking of Scaramanga stuff, his golden gun looks soooo wackass. Uhh yeah ill have have a few gold cubes put together in rougthly and a barrel ye ok? Also Scaramanga has a ship that looks old from outside and has a ratehr mordern inside. Speaking of ships, the MI6 HQ in Hong Kong is apparently the wreck of the Liner Queen Elizabeth which is ratehr ridiculous. Youd think someone would get rid of it at some point but no just leave it there its not like thrill seakers exsisit. Another thing that happens on Scaramanga#s boat is that when the island blows up and Goodnight and James Bond want to have some "fun" the little midgets attacks them, that shit was lowkey so predictable and what does James Bond do with him? Put him in a basket and hoist him up the main mast. LIKE LMAO. Anyways rather eh movie but theres still a very very long way down to trash. #fjoxmoviereview #themanwiththegoldengun #jamesbond #mgm #unitedartists #moviereview #70smovie #movie

Todays movie: Diamonds Are Forever(1971). The last 007 movie to star Sean Connery. The movie is very wackass, especially the beginning though id say its still better then From Russia with Love and Thunderball. One thing id like to note is that Mr.Whyte has the survival instincts of a goldfish, he gets shot at and just freezes, if the hitman wasn't as incompetent he woulve been dead. Most of the movie is set in Las Vegas and well as someone who has never seen Las Vegas in the 70s its really fucking weird cause the central street is rather empty and the side streets are pretty much empty. Also the attractions in some of the establichment are just wackass. Also the movie has one good explosion and the rest just looks like shit. Also Q def got put in the Black Book cause he literally used a magnet the manipulate the slots to win. Another thing is where when Felix puts Bond under house arrest that they don't put anyone in front of the window where James Bond can just climb out and just stand on the lower roof thingy. Also Mr.Wint and Mr.Kidd are some goofy ahh killers like oh yeah my wisdom tooth hurts *drops scorpion in his shirt* *insert witty response here*. Also why did they try to kill Bond and Case at the end of the movie. Another weird thing is that apparently they where faking a moon landing in the same building where they where making the satellite and that the moon buggy they had literally out performed proper cars. Also in the beginnign 007 "kills" Blofeld which i was ratehr exited about cause i was getting tired of all the spectre stuff and I was actually shocked when it was reviled that Whyte had been replaced by Blofeld who apparently cryogenically froze him and had 2 rather stunning woman guard the house and well lets say the fight scene was well lets just say:face_with_raised_eyebrow:. Also Blofeld added a operation to Baja California the map Mr.Whyte had in his floor at his penthouse which is honestly stupid cause that's how 007 ended up there. Finally id like to say that I hate it when they suddenly cut the movie to another scene. When 007 jumps off Blofeld oilrig into the ocean it just cuts to the cruise scene which was rather disorienting. Overall id says its one of the better Sean Connery 007 movies and it was pretty entertaning for what it is. #fjoxmoviereview #diamondsareforever #jamesbond #mgm #moviereview #70smovie #movie

Summer Anime Midnight Matinee! “X” Welcome to the first in my series of anime movie reviews called Summer Anime Midnight Matinee! This time I’ll be watching the movie “X”. I have no idea what this movie is about, but I vaguely remember my older brother liking it when he was in middle school. So maybe I’ll like it too? I pretty much just picked it because it was on CrunchyRoll and easy to access. If I remember correctly, this movie is written by Clamp and I liked Card Captor Sakura and some other anime and manga by them, so even if I don’t like the story too much, I’m bound to at least like the animation and character design. So, going in totally blind, let’s watch “X”! First Impressions! Wow, it’s really a beautiful anime. This movie was first released in 1996 and for that era the animation is amazingly good quality. A lot of the character designs have a very Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust look to them. And I can definitely tell this is a Clamp movie, there’s flower petals fluttering through the air everywhere. The movie literally starts with just flower petals floating around in a black background. Clamp loves flower petals! The movie also looks really artistic. There’s a lot of dream sequences, hallucinations, and visions, so the story is presented in a very abstract, artistic way. I definitely like that. The Story Wow, this is bleak. Like darker than Ergo Proxy style of bleak. The story is about a teen boy that’s supposed to stop the end of the world, but he’s just not that into it. The story is also really cyclical. The main character Kamui is told by his mother that she’s going to have to die, so he can become strong. Once he’s strong enough he needs to return to Tokyo so he can save his friends. So she dies, he becomes a strong magic user and returns to his home town. But because he returns, it begins the events that bring about the end of the world, endangering his friends. Stick with me now. The heavenly dragons ask him to stop the end of the world, but he says no, he just wants to save his friends. His friends that are endangered because of the end of the world. The end of the world that him returning to Tokyo started. Yeah. Then one of his friends (Fuma) is shown a vision from the bad guy earth dragons that shows his little sister being killed by Kamui. This isn’t actually a lie because technically speaking Kamui’s return started the chain of events that endangered them. So to protect his little sister, Fuma kills her by ripping a sword out of her. He needs the sword to kill Kamui, so Kamui can’t kill Fuma’s little sister. Got that? Even the head bad guy lady has a strange circular way of thinking. Supposedly she started the end of the world with the earth dragons to free her sister (the head of the heavenly dragons) from her responsibilities of seeing the future for politicians. So her solution was to destroy the world. Ummm, if the world and all the people are destroyed, wouldn’t her sister be dead too? So in the end, the earth dragons kill all of the heavenly dragons, then Fuma kills the earth dragons, then Kamui kills Fuma for killing his own little sister, which Kamui is kind of also responsible for endangering. Oh, and while this battle between the earth dragons and heavenly dragons is going on, all of Tokyo is destroyed too. If Kamui’s mom had just kept her mouth shut about her vision in the beginning, did nothing and Kamui had just stayed in the countryside and like called his friends instead, the world would have never ended, everyone would have stayed alive and it would have just been a cute Slice-of-life anime about friends in the city and the countryside. In conclusion! Did I like this movie? Ummm, yes and no. Much like the story, it’s complicated. I loved the look of the movie, the animation for its era was gorgeous. I also liked how the story was presented through a wide variety of dream scapes and visions. I liked the variety of characters that were easily identifiable from each other. There’s lots of things to like about this movie. It’s just the whole, no win, no happy ending possible type of story isn’t really my cup of tea. I kind of got frustrated by watching people make bad decisions that made no rational sense. There was a whole lot of “hurting with the intent to help” going on. #anime #animeMovie #Japan #JapaneseCulture #movieReview #paranormalAnime

Thunderball(1965) Spoilers Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
Yesterday i watched Thunderball and forgot to yapp about it here. The plot is that spectre steals nukes to blackmail the uk and usa from a nato plane which is apparently a vulcan(goofy ahh spockx(thoose who know)). Personally the underwater fight scenes weren’t that cool, its just a bunch of men fighting is slow motion where each side seemingly has an infinite amount of soldiers. Though at the very end there’s the scene inside the ship of the spectre member, where after they get defeated underwater they drop the end part of the ship and the front part turns into a hydrofoil which goes really fast and ends up crashing. James Bond, Domino and the bad guy who changed his mind and threw the detonator into the water and has a change of heart jump of the ship and and one of those planes that can pick up personnel while flying drops a life-raft containing one of the pickup devices the guy who threw the detonators just vanishes which is just wackass. Also its lowkey crazy how the 60s James Bond movies just keep getting more sexist, its just ridiculous. They also had scenes of a jabalee or whatever its called and that was just wackass shit. #fjoxmoviereview #thunderball #jamesbond #mgm #moviereview #60smovie #movie

So today i watched Goldfinger and it was definitely better then From Russia with Love. It also stars the legendary Aston Martin and we actually get to see Q branch. The film features allot of different cars including a cabrio version of the Thunderbird "64. Theres also goofy stuff in the movie like the nuke timer stopping at 007. Theres also the scene where Goldfinger wants to cut James Bond in half with a lazer which later had a simpson reference. The movie is really a product of its time since it features more sexism then the previous movies. Also for some stupid reason they named one of the carecters Pussy Galore. Also i have no clue what the beginning of the movie has to do with anything. #fjoxmoviereview #goldfinger #jamesbond #mgm #moviereview #60smovie #movie

Just watched police story and well I didn't expect a b movie and for a b movie it's actually very entertaining compared to other trash movies I've watched. The action scene in the beginning was really cool tho and probably couldn't have been done without mafia money that was probably involved in everything in the industry backthen in Hong Kong. I watched it on youtube and they only had the german and chinese dub and since I don't understand chinese anymore I had to watch it in german and well the german dub was meant for a shorter version of the movie so there were just parts of the movie that were just original audio. A cool thing is that they play bloopers at the end of the movie with the credits which is very rare in the movies I usually watch. Over all very entertaining though some stuff is just wackass. #fjoxmoviereview #policestory #jackiechan #moviereview #movie

Yesterday i watched the first 007 movie, today i watched the sequel From Russia with love and well it was way less entertaining, especially the part in the train where i actually found myself board. It also suffers from the typical 60s movie stuff. Atleast they learned the last minute plot twist. Theres also the first mention of the Q branch. The scenes in the gypsy camp where also wackass. Overall unlike F/X 2 this wasnt such a good sequel. #fjoxmoviereview #fromrussiawithlove #jamesbond #mgm #moviereview #60smovie

Contains lots of spoilers for Dr.No(1962) and its overall a very long post Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
I just watched the first 007 movie(Dr. No(1962)) and well its age shows though the film itself was rather good quality compared to newer movies. As for the content itself well for a movie from 1962 it holds up pretty well and is more entertaining the The Pink Panther(1963). Of course since its a movie from 60s it has its wackass stuff like in the scene where James Bond shoots the one guy in that one house of the Chinese woman who was the secretary to some official, James Bond ends up shooting him and the guy falls on the floor real goofy or where he drives the car to said woman’s house and a other car tries to run him off the road, where in those shots he clearly riding the car but for some reason they had to do this stupid 60s shit like in fantomas where when the guy is driving a car but hes not actually driving and the actual driving screen is a projector or something and it juts looks horrible or when the car trying to run off James Bond's car crashes down the hill its just wackass. Also the jokes James Bond makes are well rather aged and while they are still funny you aint gonna seriously go hahahahaha(well you might ironically for a bit or some shit), the best it will get out of me is a chuckle. As for the villain Dr.No, well his "death" is rather well underwhelming, you see James bond over heats the rather wackass nuclear reactor and then Dr.No tries to fight him off and they land on this stupid platform that’s apparently connected to the nuclear rods and basicly that platform submerges into the pool of water which is now boiling and well James Bond of course climbs on the structure and out while Dr.No cant, now Dr.No has robotic hands and for some reason that’s why he cant climb out of the structure slowly sinking into the hot water with his robotic hand holding the structure making his "death" rather terminator 2 like but here's the thing, he could just swim to the edge, would he have rather severe burns? probably, but would he survive? yes and its not like he couldn’t climb out of the pool because the ledge is barely high and in a modern movie he'd probably show up again later but he didn’t so that’s that. Anyways the entire thing blows up but for a nuclear explosion its rather wackass or maybe its secondary explosions from whatever but the nuclear reactor shouldn’t be that deep underground. Also the evil plot was to interrupt the Americans mission to go around the moon but all the video of the launch yapp about mercury which to my knowledge is Americas attampt at putting a American in space. Anyways they wanted to throw it off with GPS interference and they have one small satellite dish for that which is weird but even weirder is that they fuck around the nuclear reactor for that which is like tf you doing all that for. Also One of the things about crab island is that there’s a dragon there... said dragon is a shitty tracked vehicle with flamethrowers in front, before we actually see it James Bond and his lil crew encounter marks of the dragon which literally look like the track marks of a tracked vehicle. This entire dragon thing IS FUCKING STUPID. Anyways onto James Bond's lil crew at the end. James Bond meets a hot and attractive woman at the beach in something based on a bikini, personally i believe its just classic 60s sexism having a role like that but its not like i really give a shit about it. Anyways shes collecting sea shells there to sell for 50usd in Miami and shes apparently there cause he father brought her there because hes a marine biologist and they basically went everywhere where there’s shells so he went to crab island and never returned like many others. Anyways she said that she never went to school cause of all the travelling and her substitute was a encyclopedia which she would read from a to z, now here comes the stupid part, shes only at the letter T... IT DOESN’T TAKE 16 YEARS TO FINISH READING A ENCYCLOPEDIA. Next thing i'm gonna yapp about is the villains base, apparently there’s a luxus hotel there or some shit, like why bruh and they put sleeping pills in the coffee for some reason, also the ventilation system and the water stuff is interconnected which is honestly horrible and negligent design. Another thing when James Bond and Dr.No are talking over the "Dinner"(they didn’t eat anything) Dr.No calls James Bond a "stupid policemen" and while i get the policemen part the stupid part is just really stupid, especially coming from a smart guy like Dr.No. James bond is a very talented spy and MacGyver'd before that was even a term. Other stupid things: the decontamination scene and the electrified vent in James Bond's cell. Over all while i complained allot about it, its just what i like to do and overall its a rather good movie for its time and its entertaining which is honestly the only point that actually matters. Boy this is most likely my longest Movie Review ive written, since its so long heres a outro lol, Thanks for reading this Movie Review don’t forget to like, follow and repost this and have a nice day. #fjoxmoviereview #drno #jamesbond #mgm #moviereview #60smovie

Just watched Street Fighter. It's another one of those movies that doesn't have a too good script, but whatever, who cares. It's entertaining and Jan Claude van Damme is in it. The movie is based on Street Fighter II which I have played before but I never knew there was so much lore behind it. Anyways some things I noticed while watching: Scsi was mentioned(im a computer guy so I totally have to mention it), the controll panel of Bisons platform thingy tgat looks like what browser rides is 2 arcade controllers youd find on capcom arcade maschines and the actor for M Bison died before the movie was in theaters(rip Raul Julia). The jokes where kinda mehr tbh. Also the movie cost 35 million to make and most of that probably went to like the 6 cgi scenes. Bisons flying effect was also done really well and unlike superman they didn't need cgi for it(I assume). Also apparently Kylie Minogue is in the movie. Also its really annoying how they teased a secound movie but never made one, real bummer. Also Universal Pictures made the movie but it was distributed by Columbia TriStar which is odd since thats sony. Oh and before watching it, maybe play Street Fighter II first. Overall rather entertaining movie, might watch again. #streetfighter #fjoxmoviereview #capcom #universalpictures #columbiatristar #moviereview

i just watched F/X and for something distributed by Orion its actually pretty good. Its also funny how in the credit they played "Just an Illusion" which is funny cause FX are just illusions. I cant really say allot about it but ig if it aint trash or excellent i cant really talk shit or praise it and there arent really any noteworthy facts, its just a good movie and i respect it. #FX #fjoxmoviereview #orionpictures #movie #moviereview

It's also lowkey crazy that they actually got Celine Dion for the movie. I just finished watching Raise the Titanic. My father kept saying it's going to be a trash film but with a budget of 36million in 1980 you can't fumble that bad. Unfortunately I had to watch it in german cause youtube usually only has the official language of the country available. Anyways you could tell where all the budget went with the military ships, the models and the special effects. The story was pretty much your average cold war thriller, you had the Americans doing shady stuff, the Soviets plotting evil shit and a big fat plottwist. While watching it I couldn't stop thinking about the abyss, probably cause both are thrillers where the plot point is underwater and aren't also considered horror. Overall its good entertainment. #raisethetitanic #fjoxmoviereview #itcentertainment #movie #moviereview

Watched Thursday Murder Club. Solid beginning and middle, but it felt like it tried to wrap things too quickly at the end. I like Knives Out style movies and this book is immaculate, so I still had fun with it, but I don’t know how well it would land for unfamiliar audiences. #MovieReview
