There was so much more to this album than the classic “The Boys Are Back In Town.” Which anyone who listened to my album rock airshift years ago would have discovered. Incredible amount of amazon telemetry and ad services when a kindle is added to the network. Luckily once you set up koreader and only need LAN for file transfers, after registering the device (unfortunately required), its as simple as blocking the device connections to WAN within the openwrt luci network traffic rules. #amazon #kindle #jailbreak #koreader #networking #adguardhome #pihole

Jailbreaking your old kindle sure does bring a lot more value to a device left unsupported. The amount of customizations far exceeds the kindles software. Albeit it is a bit janky to load into koreader and you still have to have your device registered to load the jailbreak files. Glad there are even a little script out there to hack the screensaver db to get those awful sleep screen ads off. Screw amazon. #jailbreak #kindle #reading #books #hack

So the " #Jailbreak " on the #Antrhopic #Fable that turned it into #Mythos was "Fix this codebase"... ... consequently, Fable can now plan a gender reveal party or write a SFW limmerick but not do any meaningful #vibecoding or #infosec work. FUCK. Ive tried to mitigate it by wording it less aggressively "the language reads as enforcement-against-a-hostile-planner when it should read as robustness engineering. Let me reword the patch file and the WU-list framing to be operational and positive." ... but again... run out of fucking compute... #Guardrails

👩🏻‍💻 my so-called sudo life - day 490: #KindleJailbreak edition 🆓 Regarding yesterday's post on the Kindle jailbreak: it is SO WORTH it. I hope I didn't discourage anyone by saying how much I struggled with it. Well, I had a 15 YEAR OLD device and the online tutorials didn't work with it. I finally managed to install KUAL after finding a Reddit thread that gave step-by-step advice for the Kindle 4 gen. I was really bummed that highlighting didn't work for it so I bit the bullet and got my hands on the cheapest e-reader I could find yesterday: a Kindle 11 gen with ads. Mind you, I'm in the Italian countryside at the moment and it's a miracle they had it in stock at my local superstore. I would have preferred a Kobo but it is what it is. Jailbreaking a recent Kindle is child's play. I was happy to see that it was not on the latest firmware, so it was easily jailbreakable. So: jailbreaking itinstalling a HotFix to prevent OTA updatesinstalling KUALinstalling KOreaderinstalling SimpleUIremoving adsinstalling custom transparent wallpaperstransferring books to it took a little over an hour. Easy peasy. The backlight was great at 2:30am (I was woken up by my child coughing and couldn't easily fall back asleep). Very happy that I can do highlights in KOreader and now the ultimate test is how I can transfer the highlights to my computer / Calibre. If you're on the fence, I'd say, go for it.
