Some how, some way, you’ve got to. Even with the FOTUS’s manure and the rest of it. #MusicOfMastodon#80sAlbumRock#Reconciled I've been in a cave for forty days Only a spark to light my way I wanna give out, I wanna give in This is our crime This is our sin But I Still Believe I Still Believe Through the pain and through the grief Through the lives Through the storms Through the cries and through the wars https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s9EdEfjH4_Y&ra=m

One of those tunes the Stones did that summarized some of the evil men do (like Hitler’s blitzkrieg in September, 1939, that essentially began WW2) that could be updated just a bit because there’s a shit ton of material from just the past decade thanks to assholes like the FOTUS, Putin and Netanyahu. #MusicOfMastodon#60sAlbumRock#BeggarsBanquethttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uWepTCBBnLo&ra=m

The evening’s “live” selection on deck: my son-in-law who, like me, is a Tom Petty fan, made me aware of this little performance from a couple nights ago. I’ve always liked the song and it took on a special meaning when it was played as he and my daughter, who had just gotten married, left the alter in the church. Chris Stapleton does a nice job in the late Tom Petty’s place. #MusicOfMastodon#90sAlbumRock#Wildflowers https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a8V7zzRSiSU&ra=m

One of the things I’ll always love about my upbringing is my folks provided exposure to different types of music; while they didn’t always particularly care for the rock and roll I’d end up listening to, I wasn’t prevented by them to do so. That said, the evening’s “live” selection on deck, one of those classic album cuts from Christie Hynde and the Pretenders, here with Dave Grohl from a couple years ago at Glastonbury. #MusicOfMastodon#70sAlbumRock#ThePretendershttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3IMwmTLkq1g&ra=m

In 1994, WW2 veteran Alvin Straight, who lived in Laurens, Iowa, drove a 1966 John Deere 110 lawn tractor the 240 miles from Laurens to Mt. Zion, Wisconsin, to see his brother who he hadn’t had any contact with for years. In 1999, David Lynch made a movie about Alvin’s trip that starred Sissy Spacek and Richard Farnsworth. The soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti is a work of art. This has always been my favorite track. #MusicOfMastodon#LaurensWalking #TheStraightStoryhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PARW4yRqWuQ&ra=m

I’m occupying a different deck this evening, that of my daughter’s in Minnesota about four hours from my place. Spent part of the afternoon bowling with her and three of the six grandkids. It’s been awhile since I bowled but I succeeded in defeating the competition that included my nearly four-year old granddaughter, her seven year-old sister and their 12 year-old brother. Think I’ll just … kick back now. #MusicOfMastodon#80sRandB#InStephttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KfGBQHM1EzI&ra=m
