Il caffè rappresenta una delle esportazioni più importanti dell’Honduras, con la metà della produzione diretta verso l’Unione Europea. A partire dal 2027, entreranno in vigore regole più severe relative alla catena di approvvigionamento, finalizzate a combattere la deforestazione. Tuttavia, le istituzioni fragili del paese, un settore del caffè frammentato e piattaforme di tracciabilità concorrenti rischiano di ostacolare l’industria nell’adeguarsi a queste nuove normative.

Some exporters see the EU’s regulations as an opportunity to strengthen and reorganize their supply chains, while small farmers hope to be able to market the quality of their coffee to obtain more favorable prices. However, there are criticisms regarding the additional costs that producers will have to bear, who do not always guarantee a premium price, pushing them to consider markets with less onerous requirements.
