Putting things in perspective: "According to data collected by DonationWatch, 2025 was the most lucrative year in the party’s history, netting a total of 5.58 million SEK. I am using Mullvad as I am writing this. As many pointed out, it turns out Mullvad's co-founder/co-owner gave 5 million SEK (> 450,000€) to the Swedish ÖP party. If you're wondering how bad, how fascist that party might be, the answer is VERY. 2/n So, this means that if we renew our Mullvad subscriptions, some of our money may again end up being donated by co-founder/co-owner Daniel Berntsson to fund a party pushing for large-scale remigration and calling people parasites. Nothing short of a Berntsson-free @mullvadnet@mastodon.online is acceptable. Seeing the out-of-touch, almost enabling copy-pasted replies, it likely won't happen though. Apparently they are going to run in a Swedish Election 2026 because of the significant donation in 2025, by Daniel. As they weren't a viable racist party that were peddling remigration (basically ethnic cleansing by forced deportation of those deemed unwanted by white people, normally black, brown, and queer individuals). If I had known this about Daniel, I'd probably not had renewed for six months of Mullvad VPN. I feel pretty sick about the whole thing now...I honestly don't know what VPN to use now, as Mullvad after my time is up with them. I don't know which I'll choose. Tech founders can't stop being awful people, what's new... I shared some sources on what I talked about, including the scant English headlines for a Swedish article. My take on the Mullvad mayhem from today: https://markwrites.io/unity-is-majoritys-utopian-dream – But hate speech isn’t free speech. It demands violence against marginalized people. There is no “both sides” to it. It’s not okay to “fundamentally disagree” on it. If you are a company who earns income, and that income is funneled to a fascist political party, it is absolutely part of your mission. Even if it’s turning a blind eye to a teammate with whom you disagree. – It saddens me to have to walk away from @mullvadnet@mastodon.online, but I have a zero tolerance policy for fascism.
