Look at what just came out of the kiln! This is a brand new design. also new; using porcelain instead of stoneware for the first time-because a tile like this should be fancy. more coming soon--waiting for the kiln to cool off. #art #clay #ceramic #pottery #goat #corn #farm #handmade #craft #mastoArt #kentucky

I just got home after an action packed workshop at Arrowmont with Lisa Orr--a potter and educator whose work I have admired for some time. She is also the inventor of the Rocket Kiln- a simple and extremely clean and efficient way to wood fire pottery using things that might otherwise go into a landfill. For you potters: we fired to cone ^10 in less than 6 hours!!! -that's really hot, really fast #pottery #clay #art #tennessee #solarpunk #mastoArt #ceramics

I just finished making a mould for my new tile design---it's a goat 'admiring' a corn plant. Mould on the left-sloppy test press with clay on the right. other than one pesky air bubbly under the bird's wing (easy to fix) i'm happy with my casting!!! Hope you all are having a great day! #art #clay #pottery #tile #goat #corn #kentucky #handmade #mastoArt #craft

if you liked the cardinal tile I shared yesterday, you might also like this fox art tile that was in the same firing. #art #clay #fox #handmade #craft #pottery #mastoArt #kentucky

mould making is an art of its own---with a tricky learning curve, but I'm getting the hang of it, and FINALLY getting some decent clay tiles--hope to start firing them next week. #clay #art #bunny #fox #bird #handmade #mastoArt #kentucky

Good morning my pottery and peace loving friends! I just opened my first kiln firing after a long break from working in clay. Here's a first look at one of my favorites from the firing. Porcelain can be a fussy (and expensive) clay to work with, but I love the translucence so much, it's worth all the extra effort! Wishing you all a great Sunday! #pottery #clay #ceramics #peace #coffee #kenucky #handmade #mastoArt

This is the first piece from my Birthplace Series. The brick red tones come from #clay collected from a duck pond I used to visit when I was a toddler and the photo image is of me and my childhood best friend at that pond when we were probably three or four years old. It’s very bittersweet, realizing that my birthplace isn’t exactly home to me after my last visit. Also, many years ago, I found an obituary for my friend online. We’d lost touch after I moved away at age 5. #pottery

George Washington Carver, best known for his scientific innovations, was also an artist who experimented with natural pigments since childhood. These paint swatches at the GW Carver Museum at Tuskegee show the color palettes he developed using natural #clay from Alabama. He freely shared recipes detailing the process of turning clay into house paint so that those with little or no money could still enjoy beautiful surroundings. #BlackFedi #AddToBlacksky #WildClay #art #BlackHistory
