A great video from the #AVLWatchdog on one of the deaths at Mission Hospital since HCA purchased the system in 2019. No one is blaming the nurses. You have GOT to be kidding me. Mission Hospital in #Asheville snagged the 95 extra beds the state was awarding to the area, even after countless failures of HCA to effectively run this system. We had 3 other systems vying for these beds, and at least 100 people at the community meeting when we got to talk about which group should be awarded the beds. #NoKings #Asheville There were SO MANY people here today, we're about in the middle of the crowd, as many behind us as in front. Marched a good long way through the city, and as we returned people were still just leaving the park. Everyone is simply fed up, and I want the whole world to see it.

At 7:30, my region slightly SW of #Asheville has seen the first line of red storm pass by, so for a while we're in a steady rain area, before entering another yellow stretch. The leading edge is moving east, keep an eye out, friends. #NCwx

An excellent #AVLWatchdog article about the challenges our trail system are still facing, almost 18 months after hurricane Helene. The extraordinary work of volunteers is ongoing, as is the hugely increased risks of wildfire and property damage. Morning, #Asheville 19F with more wind, but really just a heavy dusting of snow in my community. Areas further north got a couple of inches. Buncombe County schools are closed, again because of the risks to the school buses on the higher mountain roads. Chilly. #NCwx #Snow

Hey, #Asheville, put away those short sleeved shirts from the last few days, as we have 2 days of cold, snow and winds again. Nothing like what the northeast will be facing, however. Those 5 daffodils that bloomed yesterday will be in for a surprise. #NCwx #snow

Another blastingly cold morning here in #Asheville, but heating way up for 40F with luck today, so some of the snow will shift. 2.8F outdoors at the house, and very low humidity inside. Looking for at least a couple of warmer days. Thanks for going with me on the snowy adventure! #NCwx #Snow

Today the sun has found us again in #Asheville, and it is helping do some of the melting without it ever getting warm. Currently 22F but the macadam is clear and dry after the 2nd shoveling this morning. Low of 5F tonight, and more winds. Really beautiful. #NCwx #Snow

Getting to the end of the light here in #Asheville, still 13F with a -5 windchill. I should have gone out to remove the last 2" of snow, but what the heck... I'll wait until the temps double tomorrow. 😱 23F for the high. Friend's report is the roads are passable, but nothing you'd want to play with if one doesn't need to. And we don't need to. Heat is on, lights are on, there's running water. Tomorrow's Sunday. I hope everyone who wanted snow got some. #NCwx #Snow

About noon here in #Asheville and the light snow is still falling. Have shoveled the drive and walk (no one else is out, smarter people) and done for the time being. Maybe approaching 4"? ED doc who went to work reported no problems on the major, plowed roads, and our local ones were navigable with AWD, so she had no issues. So far, only fun! #NCwx #Snow

Now going on 8AM, the temp has dropped to 18, and the snow is still falling, lightly but steadily. There is a touch of wind out of the north, but my weather station is somehow not telling me about it. #Asheville #NCwx #Snow

10pm in #Asheville and not a snowflake to be seen. Personally I could do with a bit of snow, as all we've seen so far this winter has been ice (the other kind.) Giving up after early start today and another early day tomorrow. Hoping everyone closer to the coast doesn't have the trouble they've been forecasting. #NCwx #SnowStorm

For the 3rd time in only 2 years #MissionHospital here in #Asheville has been placed in "immediate jeopardy," the most serious sanction the government can apply. Good #Friday morning, all, from #Asheville. 19.4F right now at about 5:30AM, with warmer and water to come (both liquid and frozen.) Another weekend of wild weather, with ice and perhaps snow in the mountains this time, but strangely much more toward the coast. Hoping everyone can get where they need to be early this afternoon.
