An International Socialist came to the door. He seemed a bit perturbed about how many of the English versions of his German paper he was having to give out. It was all about AI so of course I had to buy one off of him. Sometimes you go do research; sometimes the data comes to you. #AIEthics #Berlin #migration

Snapchat will no longer reward AI-generated content on Spotlight, its TikTok rival. The platform is adjusting its recommendation algorithms to ensure only videos created by real people qualify for its creator payouts. The move marks one of the first major platforms to explicitly penalise AI slop in favour of human creativity. https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/31/snapchat-no-longer-rewards-fully-ai-generated-spotlight-content/ #AIagent #AI #GenAI #AIethics

Facial recognition could be your new ticket to the footy By Shannon Pearce Facial recognition technology is being used as an alternative form of ticketing, but some experts are concerned it could open the door to the data being used for more than just event entry. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-28/facial-recognition-tickets-expanding-in-afl/106868858 #IdentificationTechnology #InformationTechnologyIndustry #AI #Surveillance #AIEthics #AFL #ShannonPearce

Adorno said: “There is no right life in the wrong one.” Turns out that applies to AI too. You can’t build a shiny robot cathedral from stolen bricks and then hang an “ethical AI” sign above the entrance. 🤖✨ “Sorry we took your art, books and words without asking, but look, the algorithm says please now.” A machine trained on exploitation doesn’t become ethical by learning good manners or wishful thinking. #Adorno #AIethics #DigitalAnarchy #CreativeRights

@bibliolater@social.vivaldi.net "As the realism and availability of GAI continue to increase, it is now—more than ever—critical to understand this threat and develop strategies to mitigate potential harms to individuals, organizations, and democracies." https://jov.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2818019 A dangerous development! I spent a decade not knowing what pointers were. I shipped anyway. That's the path. The wave of contempt aimed at vibe-coders isn't standards — it's the same anti-AI crowd wearing a new label. No roadmap, just gatekeeping. The answer isn't outrage. It's outlasting them. Keep building, work up the stack, and leave the door open. "The emphasis on human oversight as a protective mechanism allows governments and vendors to have it both ways: they can promote an algorithm by proclaiming how its capabilities exceed those of humans, while simultaneously defending the algorithm and those responsible for it from scrutiny by pointing to the security (supposedly) provided by human oversight." Timnit Gebru was fired from Google in December 2020 for refusing to retract a research paper, and every single warning that paper made about large language models has now happened at a scale the industry spent 4 years trying to make people forget about. #AIEthics #WeDontNeedNoAIEthics #WeAintGotNoStinkeenAIEthics https://www.tumblr.com/dreaminginthedeepsouth/817865966907228160/darren-oconnor-timnit-gebru-was-fired-from?source=share

Business Latest | Why the Vatican Invited Anthropic to the Pope’s AI Encyclical Presentation by Daniele Polidoro AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. When Pope Leo XIV unveiled his first AI‑focused encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas,” he invited Christopher Olah, a leading Anthropic researcher, to speak—signaling an unprecedented partnership between the Vatican and Silicon Valley. Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, has built its reputation on AI safety and “Constitutional AI,” embedding ethical principles directly into model behavior. This alignment with the Church stems from the Vatican’s evolving role from a moral observer to an active interlocutor in tech, exemplified by the 2020 Rome Call for AI Ethics and its growing concerns over AI’s societal impact, concentration of power in a handful of private actors, and the risk of a “digital Babylon” or “Hiroshima of the 21st century.” Both the encyclical and Anthropic stress that artificial intelligence is not neutral; it reflects the values of its creators and must be governed through shared ethical frameworks rather than left to industry self‑regulation alone.
