For anyone actually interested: the AI features available in Tracy are strictly local and can be completely removed from the UI with one toggle, as it always has been. Despite the general narrative surrounding AI, these tools actually work in practice. There are measurable performance improvements in Tracy that were pointed out by the AI. There are some, frankly quite embarrassing bugs I made, that have been avoided or fixed, because AI did code review.

The entitled abuse you get as an open source maintainer. Like, dude, I don't give a fuck if some internet rando I never heard about uses my software, or if they make a fork nobody will ever know about. I spend my weekends and evenings developing this because it fills a gap in the market that I personally need. If anyone wants to use it, be my guest, but I have zero tolerance if you choose to be a toxic asshole about it.

"The build-time "yacc and lex"-based level compiler, the "yacc and lex"-based dungeon compiler, and the quest text file processing previously done by NetHack's "makedefs" utility, have been replaced with Lua text alternatives that are loaded and processed by the game during play."

@TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place @slembcke@mastodon.gamedev.place @mcc@mastodon.social It is quite interesting to ride the edge of the photopic and scotopic vision. There's no trick to it, you just need to find something bright enough to go via the day vision route, that at the same time is dim enough to not kill the night vision. Some smartphone screens can do this at night. What you get is a "full framerate" refresh of the bright parts (e.g. white text), and clearly very choppy "updates" of the dark parts (e.g. camera hole against a dark screen background).

@floooh @morten_skaaning @pythno @jplebreton The book setting is basically everything that's wrong with the US, but turned up to 11. I wrote about it shortly some time ago, here's the translation. For context, you might have heard who Korwin is from the EU parliament already: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39152562 The tubeworms quote is a reference to his direct-to-meme, 100% serious rant about "social parasites who do nothing" or something like that. The movie is https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780622/

@pythno @jplebreton Hm? From what I recall, he was very fond of the Snow Crash book, from where the term sources? I (tried to) read it, and jeez, the themes in that book are *ugly*. Another puzzle piece that fits, though.

@molecularmusing@mastodon.gamedev.place @aras@mastodon.gamedev.place This is how VR worked in Lukyanenko's Labirynth trilogy. The first novel was released in 1997, and the setting was era-appropriate, so you had 486 or maybe Pentiums, software rendering, and modems. There was a plot point about needing to stay "inside" for 15 minutes or so, while hunted, because 3 MB of data had to be downloaded. The VR in the books worked by drawing crude shapes on the screen, while you were in a psychedelic trance that made you see them as a real world.

@xoofx@mastodon.social I literally have no idea what they have named "copilot" this time, so I did a search, and... "Should You Use GitHub Copilot or OpenAI Codex", a reddit thread. From 4 years ago. Jesus, why do they insist on this shit naming scheme? OpenCode is the one I use, only because it's open source (-ish), and it feels the least bad when compared to alternatives that were last updated half a year ago or such. Search for "squad + ai" returns 4 completely different things, all alike at the same time

@gosha@merveilles.town @vladh@merveilles.town @nikitonsky@mastodon.online From what I understand, the process of restricting access here is basically looking for path patterns in tool calls. Like, if it wants to grep something in ../../.., or if it wants to redirect stdout to /tmp/, or the like. The LLM just needs to be a bit creative and write itself a python script that will do the same thing, and then it gets full access with no questions asked, because the "security" of these things is that stupid. Never run this out of a sandbox.
