I’m so down with the lack of full text search, but could we ever get Boolean #search for #hashtags ? It’d be really helpful for fandom and for identity communities to find each other.

I think advanced search for people in this way would be more potent for abuse, but I’d love to be able to search “#ADHD AND #medication “ for example,

or even be able to search a tag AND a word from the connect, like “#ADHD AND ‘heat’” to try and narrow down to find people talking g about similar issues as me, without being able to search for text alone.

Is there another good approach to finding term intersections that #mastodon vets advise? Or just any search tips?

@Liveotherwise@mastodon.art @Oscii@mastodon.org.uk I definitely agree with this, give it a try, see if the market gatekeepers have changed their tune, but ultimately don’t let them decide what happens to your work.

I don’t have a strong sense of how adult publishing has changed with regards to #Autism, #neurodiversity and #disability but from my perspective getting books to younger people the #kidlit, #middlegrade, and #YA scenes are really opening up, and readers and their adults are really eager for new, good, stuff, especially if it’s not saccharine. I /think/ you’d have a better time now, and I definitely encourage you to try traditional routes. From my perspective as a librarian, for all the strengths of self-pub, it’s just really hard to get in front of most readers, esp young people (and even if you aren’t writing for young audiences, work on these topics is important for them to access), and those on the other side of the digital divide if your work isn’t available through low-friction channels.

@rblemberg@wandering.shop it seems like posting a lot at once is actually easier on followers’ timelines here than on the other site, the fact that it’s /only/ chronological ends up breaking them up more, whereas the algorithm always used to decide to show me all the posts a particular person had made all clumped together in an explosion.

You can't click through from their name to their instance, and I don't even see rules being prominently featured on instances unless you visit them logged-out. There should be an easy way to click through to someone's instance, and an about message and basic rules should be on the sidebar.

5️⃣ #TKingfisher aka #UrsulaVernon - I've mostly read her #SaintsOfSteel series, which are great #FantasyRomance books about grouchy middle aged retired paladins with #PTSD, but she's also got a plethora of great middle grade
6️⃣ #AdrianTchaikovsky
7️⃣ #PeteWharmby - His debut book #WhatIWantToTalkAbout is such an amazing exploration of #AutisticJoy and the gift of #SpecialInterests, it's lovely and made me care about #LEGO for the first time.

I mostly read #scifi & #fantasy in my personal life, with a bit of #nonfiction on #neurodiversity thrown in. Since I'm a children's librarian, I read a lot of #kidlit & #YA, and I'm passionate about #MiddleGrade.

@Cassana@pagan.plus Thanks for this! Is using paired slashes or asterisks for emphasis as a replacement for italics particularly annoying or disruptive? I really like italicizing things, but since most social media doesn't support markdown or HTML formatting, this has been my approach, but I'd like to be #accesibility minded and minimally frustrating for #ScreenReader users.

How do people use the favorite button on here? It seems like I should be boosting more than favoriting, since there’s no algorithm, and bookmarks are better for saving things for later. Is the star just “I like this, but my followers probably won’t care”?

@mxbck@indieweb.social How can lowering barriers be done without decreasing awareness of infrastructure? The monolithic web rather than DIY messy web is a major driver of vulnerability to misinformation and corporate takeover IMO. Users are safer when it’s a bit harder to do a thing without gaining some understanding of what the thing is, how it works, who finds it, etc.
