@nuthatch@infosec.exchange @aburka@hachyderm.io omg that is gold for those who get it. At the risk of explaining the joke, it's very nearly the last line from a book by Camus that aims to answer the question of whether life is worth living: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Myth_of_Sisyphus#:~:text=The%20essay%20concludes The essay concludes, "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy." However, l'oie (the goose) has been substituted for Sisyphus.

@tommorris@mastodon.social At a previous job, we had a centralized log of every time a developer kicked off a build of the software on their local desktop. I know one developer would come in at 5AM and run a script to switch to each major branch, build clean && build. I don't know that it was in order to look good in case someone was treating this as a metric, but I don't know that it wasn't.

seeing yet another person say basically "I know I need to leave github, but I can't right now" ..

a talk title came to me: "look for the exit nearest you". This hypothetical talk would be full of actionable ways to reduce the eventual costs of leaving an online service, even one that seems heaven-sent today.

Because we sure keep being fooled about the shiny new service, thinking it'll be just as good forever because who would deliberately ruin it...

@veronica It's also worth noting that you can use Debian instead of Ubuntu in CI settings like codeberg (or github). Use a docker image like node:25-trixie-slim to get node (needed for most major composite actions such as actions/checkout) based on the current stable debian, then add development tools with apt-get update && apt-get install -y --no-install-recommends. (or you can use, say, python:3-trixie and then install the debian nodejs package) If your dependencies are small, do it each time. If they're big, then make a docker image and publish it to whatever container repository you favor. Update it when you need to. I recommend using a date-based tagging scheme if you do this. A bonus of doing this: you can just run the very same docker image locally to diagnose build failures. A second bonus of doing this, especially on github: you won't be bitten by changes to the default runner environment that are outside your control. A third bonus of doing this: you can use debian:testing or images based on it, if stable's too old for you. (traditionally GHA has only offered LTS Ubuntu versions for CI)

Hey #NYC people. Can you advise me on whether it's reasonable (in terms of personal safety for a lone masculine person) to walk about a mile at around 2AM in the Times Square area (specifically between Hotel Martinique on Broadway & Hyatt Place New Times Square as shown on the map)

.. and if not, what would you do -- call a rideshare?

I'm a reasonably confident traveler but I'm seldom out this late anywhere I go.

Time to wreck things!

I have a Pi 4 with Octoprint, based on raspbian 11. It frequently nags that Python 3.9 is outdated...

so today I'll do the "not guaranteed to work" updates from bullseye->bookworm->trixie via apt.

I also finally got out one of my spare tasmota AC relays so I can power switch the printer & lights off when not in use...

@pathunstrom@ngmx.com so I'm using a slightly modified dykes in this 6800 computer simulator with a line-based terminal UI. Compared to what I mentioned in that PR, I started using my own parser instead of shlex.

Now, I'm wondering if there's any pathway from this to tab completion in python's readline ... if you have any thoughts I'd love 'em.

-t, --hook-type [possible values: commit-msg, post-checkout, post-commit, post-merge, post-rewrite, pre-commit, pre-merge-commit, pre-push, pre-rebase, prepare-commit-msg] prek (and pre-commit) support many more hooks than the default pre-commit. I guess prek install --install-hooks will install "all hooks used in the config file". I wonder why that was not made the default!

Where in the world are the early reviews of the #Prusa3d #bondTech INDX toolchanger? I know to take such reviews with a tablespoon of salt, but I'm really surprised there aren't a raft of youtube videos out there from folks who got shipped early units by Prusa specifically so there would be video reviews out at the same time the thing went in the store.

Of course, since Saturday it also went back out of the store reportedly due to selling through an initial production run.
