it happened!
for the first time ever, i was correctly gendered by a complete stranger.
a gentle older lady at the grocery store, commentating about my 7yo daughter, "she likes to stay close to mom," and gave me a big smile.
and of course i gave her a big smile back.
damn that's good stuff.

writing the last lyrics for my album today
might sing them later when the heat cuts out
there was a period of time, maybe 2 months ago, where i was like "i need to donate all my boy clothes" cuz they made me look masc and i hated that. i'd just come out, and dressing fem was the main way that i expressed my gender and felt good about it.
enough time has passed that now when i wear these boy clothes, i still just feel completely fucking fem and maybe even lightly butch in a way i like?!
i don't have room in my life for all these clothes! but i can't get rid of perfectly good stuff, that's wasteful.
and they make me feel hella cute. like, i feel my femininity accentuated by contrast against these boy-shaped cuts.
get fucked, facial hair!

working on accepting myself. i am enough. i am happy. i don't need anything more than i have. the things that i want to change will change in due time. just keep going.
for instance:
it's okay that not every song has every kind of idea. a song can be in 11/8 and it doesn't also need unexpected harmonic motion and voice leading. a song can have a lengthy chord progression with a dense melody and not also need 5-part vocal harmony and microsound. songs can be instrumental, they don't all need poetic lyrics that wink at some personal trauma. songs can be good even if nobody would make a youtube essay about them. just keep playing around, just keep writing about it.

@psc@mastodon.social I used to play in bands, but now live in the woods so I just work by myself. I have a decent collection of weird and broken instruments, which I write songs through and then heavily process.
I put my stuff up on Bandcamp. My most recent release (Jerk) is instrumental and explores something called a Risset rhythm, so maybe go back further if you wanna hear lyrics.

@psc@mastodon.social re b — it's not uncommon (for me and lot of other folks i know) to be "done" working on something when your hatred of it totally overwhelms your perfectionism and you just abandon it and move on. which agrees with what you said, i just think it's possible to make good music while not liking what you've made.

speaking of spencer krug, i'm a big fan of the lyrics of his oft bandmate carey mercer. "ain't nobody gonna fuck, fuck the sun" — he did it! he wrote "fuck" twice in a row.
(yes, it's funny, but it's esp funny because of the context set by his other lyrics. like "One in Six Children Will Flee in Boats" is such a great song title. i digress.)
