Can anyone recommend resources or support groups/spaces for folks navigating a #CareerChange out of tech, especially if that is semi-involuntary (i.e. I don't have an income with which to pay for Expert Help)? Bonus points for focus on autistic and/or disabled workers. No points for anything involving LLMs.
This is kind of a long shot, but Fedi seems a reasonable place for people with this problem to be hanging out. Boosts appreciated.
Over a busy weekend I resolved that today would be a no-productivity vacation day. My brain, which has been refusing to do any productive things for weeks, needs to be cared for.
So of course today I keep having impulses to go work on Projects and have to stop myself.
Has anyone yet designed a programming language where the keywords are all swears and other words that LLMs choke on?

I've noticed this pattern, but I tended to lump it in with how political posts attract conspiracy theorist responses; people responding to others to soapbox about the thing they want to convert or "educate" people about, rather than engaging with the OP in good faith. I appreciate the new, and kinder, perspective you've given me.

I installed cocAInify (https://codeberg.org/brib/cocAInify) the other day and I'm still adjusting to it, but it does make keeping up with the bullshit a little more enjoyable.

@tito_swineflu@sfba.social Someone I know swears by setting up Google alerts for the job titles you want on lever.co, myworkdayjobs.com, and greenhouse.io, as a lot of companies post to those boards first. So, as much as I hated to go to Google, I've done that recently; no luck yet. I'm also still trawling LinkedIn, Indeed, and Wellfound.com, and I have a profile I periodically renew on Underdog.io.
With all that, it feels like referrals are almost necessary to actually get interviewed, nowadays....

Over a year into seriously job-hunting and it is miserable. I remain stubbornly a generalist #SoftwareEngineer with #Infra background, both close-to-hardware systems and web #DevOps #SRE work. Need US remote or #PDX local, no AI or blockchain.
There doesn't seem to be a consensus on whether #FediHire, #FediHired, or #GetFediHired is the hashtag, so I'll use them all to say: please help me find a job so I can pay the mortgage on my queer misfit den and otherwise provide for myself and my family.

@janl@narrativ.es oddly, I was confused at first because what I would expect to go after "ethical issues aside" is other things wrong with it. Like, I don't apply for "AI" jobs because of ethical concerns *and* because I believe that the bubble is going to burst within the next couple of years *and* because the quality of the products is simply irredeemably bad.
