@jalefkowit One time, on tour with my band, I was staying in Minnesota with a friend. His absolute hillbilly of a roomate showed up with a dead raccoon that was dripping blood everywhere. It was quite traumatic.
Apparently the cops had been called on a raccoon that was up a tree. The roommate asked if he could shoot it, because he could get 15 dollars for the penis bone. So I guess that's a thing.

What's air defense doing?
The refrain about gaps in Russian air defense is coming home to roost with the Americans in the Iran war. Several half billion dollar thaad systems destroyed (you had one job, which was air defense) many radars, 5 kc135 tankers damaged, 150 soldiers injured...
The news would make you believe that this is a one-sided war, but Iranian missiles are getting through, and they are causing a LOT of damage.

So, why are we at war with Iran? Anyone have any reasonable theories? Let's say Israel was determined to start a war, and Trump just went along with it? Is that a likely scenario? If so, why?
Is it a bunch of old-timers butthurt about the hostage thing 50 years ago who have been waiting to start this war? Are there enough of those around?
Ignore for a moment that this war makes no sense from any logical standpoint. What's the pressing need in the ruling class' mind that produces this war? I'm really at a loss here.

Shaheed drones have a range of 1500 miles. Maybe 2400 in some variants. Iran has 80,000 of them. What if a number of ships out there within 1500 miles of the west coast turn out to be carrying 50 shaheeds each? How much active air defense coverage does the west coast have?

Some basic tenets to create a safer city. Feel free to add to this list:
1. re-prioritize transportation options. In order of importance, transportation budget should be allocated in this order:
a. pedestrian infrastructure
b. public transit infrastructure
c. human-powered vehicles (bikes, etc)
d. small electric vehicles (unicycles, scooters)
e. delivery and maintenance vehicles - trucks, work crews
f. private cars.
2. remove all free public parking. Personal vehicles need private storage, full stop.
3. Reduce road sizes as appropriate given the hierarchy of #1
4. Remove all private motor-vehicle storage requirements for new housing development.
5. Remove all freeways where they transit cities. Cities are for living in, not driving over.
I live in a city because I want to live in a city, not a theme park for far-flung suburbanites and regressive 50's cosplay.
