Everyone was very polite while the President of the United States fucked up in front of Canada and the United States and anyone else in the world that was watching.

@abmurrow "Nobody paid him to do this. He's a cloud engineer who read the law and decided someone needed to implement it." This assertion might be belied by Dylan's connection to Khosla Ventures, and the oddly supporting behavior of Poettering. Nobody knows incremental takeover like Poettering, and age verification in SystemD could work hand-in-hand with Poettering's new startup, Amutable. Is it profit-driven corruption of the open source kernel by bad-faith pull requests? Smells like it.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io 780 men and boys, all of them Muslim, have been imprisoned over time at Guantánamo since January 2002. 86 percent were sold to the United States during a time when the U.S. military was offering large bounties for capture; commonly, $5,000 was offered per man.

@benroyce @arutaz @nixCraft Alas, not as luminous as it might at first appear: no light is emitted in-vitro. From the article, "Upon fertilization, calcium increases and zinc is rapidly released. When this happens, the zinc joins itself to small, light-emitting molecule probes." The word "probe" here is important: it is an introduced chemical that emits the light when it combines with the zinc. The paper can be read at https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4845039/ See Fluo-4-AM and FluoZin-3 dyes, within.

@RnDanger@infosec.exchange @agowa338@chaos.social @greenpeace@mastodon.social There are interesting developments on this front. This is a good introduction to use of supercritical water to address some of the shortcomings of direct plastic recycling. https://www.kbr.com/sites/default/files/documents/2023-09/1014_ES_Olsynski_Plastics_Potential.pdf The process mentioned has a pilot plant in operation, to the best of my reckoning. Clearly, using the output of this process to generate fuel is an non-renewable path to be avoided just as much as direct incineration of plastic as a means of "recycling".

@DigitalHorology@hachyderm.io Ah, the veneer is the right way to do it, for sure. Does it have a beeper or noise maker, perhaps to alert one to the exact moment of the new or full moon? How does it look when it's waiting for a GPS fix, when you first power it up? What does it do when it loses GPS fix? That's about it for me: I'm starting to get silly, with stuff about 2,551,442.9 or Jean Meeus...

@DigitalHorology@hachyderm.io That's lovely! I adore the through-the-wood display. Do you ever have tear-through failures during fabrication? Does it show the closest moon phase or does it show the most recent moon phase? Can I invert it, so that the new moon is on the right? Does the appliance perceive the brightness of the room in which it is placed? Does the appliance indicate awareness of when the moon is above the horizon at the current location? Does it modulate color or brightness in any way?

@BNONews@mastodon.social "Surveillance video shows a driver passing by the Trump Hotel in Vegas about an hour before the car explodes, and then circling back near the end of that hour and stopping in front of the hotel, where the car explodes several seconds later, the official told CNN." Perhaps something more intentional, then, and not an accident caused by the battery.

@BNONews@mastodon.social I wonder if that is the low voltage battery malfunctioning and then having its individual cells heat up and "cook off" in the fire that it caused. The explosions seem to be from the right place. That high pitched fireworks-style scream is more like how you want them to fail during a catastrophic overheat, rather than having as many as 15 individual grenades going off at random and preventing safe approach during fire fighting.
