De gemiddelde snelheid zal waarschijnlijk maar een paar kilometer omlaag zijn gegaan, maar die idioot die regelmatig op topsnelheid passeert is praktisch verdwenen. Die kan er immers niet meer langs, gehinderd door al die anderen die ongeveer 30 rijden. Meer gespreid ook, is mijn indruk. Waarschijnlijk is hij nu bumperklever geworden. Waar voorheen af en toe even 'geplankt' kon worden rijdt er nu een gespreide stroom ongeveer 30. Zonder af en toe een paar honderd meter te planken want die snelheid mag niet meer.

They stopped building electric cars in favour of SUVs while the rest of the world goes electric. And nearly a quarter of their prospective clients intends to get a (foreign) electric car too. The chair of 'Ik Ben Autovrij' @ikbenautovrij@mastodon.nl told me he was living in Ferdinand Bolstraat at the time, next to the taxi-stand half way, and the cars were not cars wrecked by them. They were abandoned wrecks from residents who did not want to bother to get rid of their cars properly. And since there was no paid parking, they would just leave their cars in the street. 'Blij dat ik rij'. So actually using those cars to create a protest would please everyone because then they would be taken away.

You can't fully rely on the driving robots. The human babysitter behind the wheel the legislator holds responsible won't be alert if all goes well 999 out of 1000 times.

So far few and anecdotal accidents, but the vast majority of kilometers are not driven by normal cars. Legislators, act!

And this is just the safety argument.

@k8ie @notjustbikes the government of the US is hardly involved in road safety. Unlike the EU, the industry does ‘self certification’. If they think it’s okay the government approves. They have to avoid getting sued by their own customers. Pedestrians and bicyclists are not buying their cars and are therefore irrelevant. They have very little grounds to sue other road users who endanger their safety. Better protect yourself with tons of steel!

@albertojavier @notjustbikes Actually, the SUV is designed to profit from a loophole in taxation. Like many cars, it is the result of legislation. American legislation in this case. As a work vehicle it also does not have a good design.

They all want others to stop with this profession, stop driving a taxi, so prices can go up. The boss of the major taxi company TCA once explained to me that this profession is the most attractive job if you have zero qualifications. She added that she repeatedly sees them make extremely bad choices as entrepreneurs. Less taxis is good.

To me it sounds great to make these services more expensive, it will benefit the alternatives. But I could be wrong.

They need a car for their tools and materials anyway and now they get more pleasure and status out of it. Their job by itself gives less of that? And they like to Dodge taxes just like their big hero entrepreneurs?

And that passenger trains are running on the tracks owned by the cargo train company. Cargo gets priority. The train we see here is also a cargo train.
