First full listen through of Boards of Canada Inferno. It's amazing to me that they've kept this vibe going for decades now and still can find fresh ways to approach it. This doesn't sound like any other BoC record while still sounding like a BoC record.
Also, I find it interesting that for the first (?) time, one of the dudes is credited with writing and production. The last 2 records have been "written, recorded, produced by Boards of Canada". They also list what tools each of them "played" on the record. So it seems one guy plays the instruments and does sound design and the other guy just mostly does sound design.
Anyway, great record. A+

So, after casting about for a bit, I've decided the next record I'm going to work on is a 2nd Occidental Dirt Farmers record. Back when I was going through all old DAW projects, I sorted out 7 demos (let's call them) that would be the basis of this record.
The impetus behind ODF is that it is music I create using non-linear music software. Think Ableton Live's Session View--in fact, these tracks all started in Live. But I've converted all my Live projects to Bitwig so that's where I'll finish writing these songs. I create a grid of my different musical phrases and samples and improvise an arrangement. It's alls software and samples, in the box, as they say. Then bring those recorded tracks into Reaper and mix them, maybe add a few bits and bobs, and Bob's yr uncle.
The first ODF record actually started life in a short-lived software by Cakewalk that was meant to compete with Reason & Live, called Project 5. I was on the beta testing team. The software didn't last long but I the tracks on that record all began as projects made in Project 5, and then embellished and mixed in Cakewalk Sonar.
It may be my least 'popular' record. But I like these tracks and think they hold up.

I mean, sure this is lame and could get worse but if you read the post it states “To be clear, this is not sitewide human verification, let alone sitewide ID verification.”

Missing J today. Wish he was here so we could talk about Hot Chocolate—while I had known the hits he got me to get into the deep cuts.
This is very much Hot Chocolate leaning into the disco sound, at the tail-end of disco's cultural significance. The thing is, Hot Chocolate was never just a disco/funk band. Their first 3 records have a lot of range. There are flavors British Invasion, psychedelic, funk, northern soul, throughout their catalog.
Still, I would describe this as a "dance record" which at that time meant disco. But in practically also meant soul/funk. But it's still a Hot Chocolate record. Instead of disco strings there are funky synths. The bass playing is amazing. Side 2 is stronger, more funk with a bit of new wave in there. This is not my favorite Hot Chocolate record but it will be in rotation and if I have a dance party it will be getting some play.

Thought I'd give record.club a try. A place to log the records I've been listening to other than occasionally dropping a photo/blurb here.
Started a list of every vinyl record played in 2026. (I started it late so there's some from the beginning of the year I'm sure are missing)
