The idea of limited liability corporations having "slipped our control" reminds me to wonder out loud: given the existence of share buy-backs, is there anything to stop a limited company becoming its own wholly-owned subsidiary? Or given the existence of leveraged buyouts, is there anything to stop a group of, say, half a dozen limited companies buying all of each other's equity so that there is no human ultimate beneficial owner?

Can you be more specific as to what you mean by "clean air"? It seems likely to me that the dominant factor in changes in healthy life expectancy at the moment is controlling, or failing to control, the ongoing spread of Covid, and that everything else - healthcare, diet, pollution - is a second-order effect.

I'm nitpicking because if I'm going to drop £140 on a refurbished handset - which I think is more than I've ever had to pay for a brand new handset running Googley Android - I want to be *very* confident in advance that I'm going to be able to achieve my goals with it.

Pushing two buttons at the same time is not a problem. But that's not all that's needed: there's talk of plugging in USB cables at both ends while holding said buttons, which may or may not turn out to be very fiddly; and of releasing the two buttons immediately on a particular visual cue - if "immediately" means "within 300 milliseconds" that's fine, if it means "within 100 microseconds" it's likely a problem.

Incidentally, I looked up the LineageOS installation instructions for Samsung Galaxy S10 (because I've seen a reasonably affordable refurbished one of those for sale), and there's a bit more to it than command line use - there's stuff about booting the phone into download mode and recovery mode that sounds like it needs quite a lot of manual dexterity - perhaps more than I have.

What does "tamper" mean in this context? If it just means "someone else in physical possession of the phone could reflash it with a ROM of their own choosing", that's unproblematic. If it means "someone else in physical possession of the phone could bypass the lock screen PIN, and therefore the internal storage encryption, and access all the data", that's not so unproblematic.
