Before Betrayal at Krondor, #Dynamix was already dungeon crawling. #SwordOfKadash mashes up Rogue, Wizardry and Gauntlet into 256 hand-crafted screens of real-time, trap-filled brutality. It's not fair, it's not gentle, but it might be the most atmospheric 8-bit crawl you've never played. Save states recommended. Imagination required.

@ThreeOhFour Highly regressive for sure. But even more so, I don't understand why it's so inconsistent. Why make Alexander, a romantic hero, get into a swordfight at all? Why not handle the finale in a character appropriate way? This sort of confrontation would have fit for bodybuilder King Graham of part V. It amazes me how few ideas they had throughout the writing of this game.

Forced Weddings – Monkey Island and King's Quest VI

As a companion to the recent treatment of Prince Alexander's grand quest for love, here is a narrative analysis of its ending, compared to a contemporary game using similar motifs:

@MichaelKlamerus I've only watched the first one so far. Wouldn't call it immediately catchy. Storytelling-wise, there are enough small things to build some interest, but there is not one central, big hook. There are several shots which just scream "look, I'm art!" It's all a bit much, Well, let's see.

#WildPalms, episode 1. #KimCattrall says to #JamesBelushi: "Harry, this is William Gibson." I'm thinking, that's a funny choice for a character name in a series about virtual reality. Who walks up? The actual #WilliamGibson! Making a cameo as himself.

@jefklak I'm hardly a specialist and I don't like most of them ;) But, well, unless you're looking for the hard experience, I'd say Space Quest V (as mentioned in the review) or Quest for Glory IV (if you are open to a RPG-hybrid experience). Personally, I have a bit of a soft spot for the Laura Bow games as well. Most of the older ones are really hard to get back into nowadays.

It's the best #KingsQuest ever made -- and that's the problem. Professional voice acting ✓ Lip-synced animations ✓ CD-ROM production values ✓ ...and yet the finale devolves into pixel-hunting death traps. Why #KingsQuestVI's polish couldn't fix its conservative soul.

We have to talk about #BaywatchNights. The first episode isn't half bad, with the deception theme and a prototypical femme fatale. It delivers on thrills and mystery. Just wish the other two detectives would have more relevant roles. Thread continues.

I feel the enthusiasm of all the participants. Some of it sounds very fascinating. I'll probably never play it.

@console @Tijn I checked my old notes. They say: professional voices in the German dubbing, among them for example those who regularly dub Jack Nicholson and John Goodman. But the translation itself is a bit shaky; they often translated too verbally, the sentences sounding tinny and artificial due to that. To be fair, the latter criticism also applies to many TV shows from the time.

@console @Tijn Oh, and by the way, reacting on what's been said in the show: I did play the fully German dubbed version in the 1990s. Don't remember all details, like how wordplay puzzles have been translated. But overall, this was a big production also in dubbing. As common at the time, they even "translated" the protagonist's name, who became "Mal Block" ("Malblock" = scratchpad).

@console @Tijn As for Flux, I had the impression that we (the players) are supposed to hate the bunny and all the other inhabitants of the world with a vengeance, like Drew Blanc. But Flux is there as the "inner voice" of both Blanc and the player, saying out loud what they are thinking. Didn't work for me at all. I hated Flux with his totally unoriginal, cringeworthy remarks much more. And felt a disconnect between author intention and my reception.

@dosgameclub Forgotten? I think it's one of the most popular adventure games of the 90s! I last played this in 2018. At the time, I found the role of the "wisecracking sidekick" hyper-annoying. So much that I had to force myself to continue at all. It just rubbed me the wrong way completely.
