Hot take:
Boards of Canada are a second-tier act.
I just will never get the hype. I don't mind them, but they're just background music for me, no matter how much I look into that they offer an aesthetic experience that feels like it should talk to me, but never reaches me.
Also the kinda hip hop trip hop botched rhythms are a true put off in general for me.
It's weird because I love Aphex Twin, Autechre, even stuff like Burial. And ambient music too.
But BoC are really mid.

New squarepusher album out today.
It's a weird one, definitely good, but like with some other of his works I struggle because it sits in that weird spot between #jazz and #electronic, ensemble music and solo musician, improvisation and complete lack of it as in computer music. So I don't know, his work always feels very organic and natural, but at the same time my brain screams for the lack of real musicians, so to speak, and an actual band playing together.

In a quick turn of events I've switched from qtile to KDE. Basically the first time ever I'm stable on Wayland (since I can load ICC profiles for my monitors).
I gotta say KDE is just phenomenal, super customisable. I'm not using any TWM plugins, but I've recreated my virtual desktops setups and all my keybindings, so it feels like home and it's a polished and complete desktop system, for a change.
I love it!

Just finished Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami.
I loved it. It was my first Murakami book, and it won't definitely be my last.
After finishing the book I was expecting the usual backlash on the internet. Yes, I too cringed at many of the sex scenes, yes, it felt a bit heavy handed with the author's horniness. So what? Have you ever been a 20 years old man? Perfectly fitting, I'd say.
This was a great coming of age story, beautifully written.

@compfu but from what I understand we're not losing the media files, they will be migrated as well. Other servers will have broken links but we will still have access to our own media files. But yeah if you *really* care about it I'd suggest a backup.

@compfu well actually I've got more insights: it has to do with our current host because it uses its own cdn and exposes our media file via a domain that we don't own. It won't be the case with other providers. One more reason to migrate, I'd say.

@kotlasu so apparently it is the other way around: currently all our media files are hosted on cdn.masto.host. When we will migrate the cdn will change and so all the other fediverse servers that link to our media will see broken files, as there’s no way to change links on other server’s databases.

@kotlasu we're on managed hosting and possibly moving to another managed hosting provider, so it should be safe, since, unlike me, they're professionals. I'm asking more technical clarifications about the media links, so far all I know is that our current hosting provider is hard coding the links in the db and because of this they will break. Fingers crossed, if everything is good we're moving on during next week!

Second: we are currently pondering a migration to a different hosting provider, that at the moment will halve our monthly bill, and as a goody we will get also elastic search included with the price, which is great.
Unfortunately, it'll break all the links to our existing media content, which means it'll look as a fresh start, in a way.
I know it sucks, but it'll guarantee us a future.
The server will still be hosted in the EU.
Before moving on with the migration, what do you think?
