Both an interesting read for the story of introducing the author's dad to TTRPGs and because of the brief review of the experience of playing Roach Motel, norgad's most recent Mothership module. Norgad's previous work includes Brackish and Dead Weight.

@dedalusroot@mastodon.social I just finished my first campaign of Arcs and I agree. I'm pretty sure the campaign is a good and interesting game, but the number of times I would have to play it before I understood both its rules and all the Fates rules and could start playing it skillfully... I don't see myself having that time to devote to it. I'm currently considering selling the expansion and just keeping the base game. #arcs #boardgame

@deinol@dice.camp What's your favourite? Or, another question: given that I can buy Classic Traveller from Lulu or DriveThru, should I try that first or is there a successor that's a better starting point for someone new to Traveller?

@petrosophia@caw.corbode.com with OSR you can go crazy with the prep, but then it can be very easy to run at the table. And if you're feeling high energy you can pour that into playing NPCs, evocative descriptions, making jokes, etc.

@petrosophia@caw.corbode.com Also, this is more of a "your taste may vary" but: Within games that have a GM and have prep there is still a lot of variation in how demanding they are on the GM. I enjoy running PBTA games, but I find the improvisation and thinking draining. Ditto high rules crunch games. That's why I gravitate a lot to light weight dungeon crawling games (#OSR) as a lot of that is just adjudicating "huh, what would happen next" and then letting the players scheme, so I can sit back more.

@petrosophia@caw.corbode.com Have you ever played any zero-prep GM-less games? e.g. Fiasco, For the Queen, The Quiet Year. If you are familiar with one of those (even better if there's someone else in the group who is too) then you can prep your "main" game, but if you can't face GMing on the night you can switch to the less demanding game. That also means you're going in with less pressure on you to have to be in the right place emotionally and mentally, which can actually mean you end up GMing more often!

@petrosophia@caw.corbode.com Do you only want advice from people who specifically know about bipolar or is other advice welcome? I have chronic fatigue, so I'm used to getting to a scheduled game and no longer having much energy to GM, for example.

@pooserville@dice.camp I got the impression that was for campaigns *about* an accelerating, out of control, revolution. Whereas I'm more just wanting material for a setting for adventure. But perhaps I have misjudged?

Please give me suggestions for OSR settings, systems, blog posts, etc. for playing games set in the industrial revolution era, or a bit later. 1700s up to gas lamp, I guess.

I've been reading the amazing https://incunabuli.com again. And there's Electric Bastionland of course. What else?

Edit: Frontier Scum probably counts.
