Dutch expat now hamradioactive from North East PA. I was first licensed in 1987 as PE1MBI but didn't really become active until the late 90's as KG4ECV and now KR1ST and PA1ST.

I'm interested in more things than can be explored in a single human lifetime.

@jonathanworth I don't know how hard it is to get a license in the UK, but I hope you can find someone or a club that may help you pass the exam. What I find inspiring about this, and I'm in awe of every time I make a meteor scatter contact, is that dust and rocks broke off some bigger rock millions of years ago, traveled through space while homo sapiens started to develop 300,000 years ago and here I am at the right place and time to bounce a signal off it while it crosses earth's atmosphere.

This image shows you why it's called meteor *scatter*. My beams are pointed at 225 degrees (SW), yet my signals bouncing of the meteor trails are heard in many directions. A tool like https://swan.ms/ can be very helpful to help you find where to aim your signal for maximum effectiveness. (Aim perpendicular to the meteor trails). #hamradio #AmateurRadio #hamr

Meteor pings are usually shorter on 2m than what you would see on 6m, but can be just as strong.

You don't have to wait for the #Perseids meteor shower to peak to have some meteor scatter fun! You have a good chance of making MS QSO's a few days before and after the peak. The best time to do this is during the early morning hours. I just made simultaneous MS QSO's on 2m and 6m with the same station (WA4CQG, 821mi/1313km) using MSK144 on 144.150 MHz and 50.260 MHz. #hamradio #AmateurRadio #hamr #MeteorScatter

@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org I just checked into the #FediFridayWinlinkNet using the WA3WLH-10 2m packet node via the CMLBK digipeater. This time I used the Kenwood TH-D75 HT over Bluetooth instead of the IC-9100 I usually use for packet. What a marvelous HT this is! All on battery power. #FFWN #Hamradio #AmateurRadio

@oz1lqo@techhub.social Looks like someone tried to push a PL-259 in there. Odd that it was on a new radio. Wouldn't be surprised if it was QA that caused it. I've had it happen on amp where some of the tongues broke off due to a N connector of which the center pin stuck out too much. You can guess what a broken off tongue will do in a connector.

Perhaps a good fit for this weekend is this 4 disc compilation by Jean Michel Jarre, Planet Jarre. It includes a track that he first played at Coachella 2018, called Coachella Opening. Some day i will make it there myself.

Since audio cassettes started to make a little bit of a comeback back then, he also made this compilation available on cassette. Of course I had to have that box set too to make my ever incomplete collection of Jarre albums one step closer to complete. 😄

Funny how they checked for gasses on the outside after splashdown. They should have done that near the hatch when it opened. It had to be pretty ripe in there. 😄

I just received the first three #SSTV Series 31 images from the #ISS 04/10/2026 14:18UTC pass.

It looks like the images are cut off a bit at the bottom. The last line of text is cut off. I see the same thing on the images others posted to the gallery.

@ON4CDJ @bud_t I should try to check into that net as well. I like to use different modes just as a practice for myself, but also to encourage the operators of various nodes to keep things running. I'm sure if no one would use things like the packet nodes it would be really easy for the ops to just shut those nodes down if no one used them. I wouldn't blame them one bit if they did.

@bud_t You still got 4.5 hours to check into the #FediFridayWinlinkNet ! I just did using the 40m VA3PDG Ardop node to pick up my mail and VE3HJL 40m Ardop node to transmit my message. I guess propagation changed between receiving and transmitting so that I had to use different nodes. But that's all part of practicing this. It's a bit early in the day to use 40m. #hamradio #AmateurRadio #FFWN
