@timixretroplays@digipres.club @frenshape@beige.party I have some heat shrink cartridges for my Brother label printer. They're neat, but I wish they could shrink more. Like for Ethernet you have to put them on before you put the end on, not after.

@JeGr@chaos.social Joplin is all Markdown, and can link between notes. There is an export to HTML feature in Joplin, but I've not tried it. Most likely something like Pandoc could be fed the markdown files and output HTML, too. I just keep all my stuff in Joplin and sync it around these days. My public sites are Jekyll or Sphinx, which are close enough to copy between if I want to do public content, but I'm not sure about automating that in any way.

I put blotting paper behind notebook pages to catch bleed-through, as bookmarks, and protection so I don't have to worry about closing notebooks before the ink is 100% dry.

I usually use sheets of Herbin blotting paper, but its size, 120x190mm, is not ideal in notebooks. However, it can be cut into strips that exactly fit my matching blotter handle.

I wanted sheets a bit larger, so I ordered two different kinds that were labeled A5: JetPens Kanso and Sakae.

This grouped set of weather stamps is smaller than I expected, but it's perfectly sized. It fits into one of the larger pen loops in my folio. You just uncap it, line up the one you want, and press it.

At first I was confused about why there was a ghost, but I figured I'd get some use of it around fall. After some searching, it's most likely a teru teru bōzu so basically means "it's been raining for so long I am trying to summon sunshine", which I completely understand.

A bit on the fence with this new TWSBI Eco variant. It's much lighter than I'd prefer, but it's called Fluorite so maybe it's also fluorescent like its namesake? Currently at about a 70/30 split with 70% being pass. Time will tell.

@toga I haven't seen any regular notebooks, but they do have "Journals" which are bound like more traditional notebooks but claim to be using the Mnemosyne paper, though they are also much thicker and more expensive. They don't appear to be dated or formatted like journals, the pages are just lined or dot grid depending on which you buy. I almost got one to try for my hobby log since I know I really like my other Mnemosyne spiral bound notebooks, but they're a bit expensive to try on a whim.

I think I've settled on just using a dot grid Tomoe River S Kanso notebook. I have a 160-sheet blank one completely unused sitting on the shelf. I don't really need numbered pages, it was just nice in theory. I bought a date stamper but I'm not sure if I'll use it. So not only is the paper much better, it's also very UV friendly.

@stylus I'm also eagerly awaiting reviews. I didn't want to be an early adopter this time, since I know there are usually growing pains and they refine the process and kits for things as they go. I'll likely wait and pick one up later this year once it gets smoothed out a bit.

@clew@ecoevo.social That's an option, though I'm not sure I'd want to go that far. I could also probably buy loose leaf sheets of what I want, run the pages through a laser printer with the template I want, and then bind them. But all of that is still a lot more effort than I'd like to put into it, even in batches. I'd much rather find something that's "good enough" rather than DIY to that extent.

I know I could just take any good notebook I have and use it, but I'd rather not have to draw the lines, add the numbers, and so on myself. Lowering the effort involved means I'm more likely to keep up with it.

I'm about 2/3 the way through this Sunny Log Note Journal that I've been using as a hobby log. I like the format, but I do *not* like the paper or how faint the markings on the pages are.

I'd really like to find something else similar, but made with better paper:

- Undated
- Numbered pages
- 2 days per page
- Each day has two columns, one dot grid one line grid (though dot grid alone would be good enough)
- TOC/Index pages at the front

@TimmyMac I prefer converters since I can fill them as much or as little as needed and they're usually easy to clean. You can see the ink level clearly, and less messy than syringe filling. More options than cartridges. I figured you had a Pilot Metropolitain based on that alone, and I see you confirmed that already. I went to use my Faber-Castell Essentio and it was dry. Only a littlle droplet of ink in the converter. I filled it on Dec 17th, so it definitely didn't make it 4 months. But I thought I just used it a couple weeks ago and it was fine. So maybe it's good for ~3 months max. Not a great seal. I'll add it to the case of pens that will be fine if I intend to use them a lot over a short term.

@indi It's possible they aren't seated fully or aren't aligned quite right. It's also possible there is still some ink stuck between the tines of the nib, might need to drag the space between the tines with some brass sheets or similar.

@indi How far did you disassemble it? The nib and feed are friction fit into the section and will pull (straight out, don't twist!) for the most thorough cleaning. Soaking or using an ultrasonic cleaner are good, pen flush can help, but sometimes nothing beats pulling the nib and feed.

Akkerman Out of the Blue isn't getting along with the EF Pilot VP I have it in. It's not drying out, but it's not flowing well. It skips a lot and often hard starts. Asa-gao never misbehaved in the same pen before I swapped to this ink.

Out of the Blue is not a high sheening ink but it does have a medium amount of sheen, which has gummed up pens for me before.

I ran the nib under water and cleaned it off well and it behaved while I was using it for notes today at least.

Though a couple vendors did sell them as sets. I also haven't added my latest set of Sharks to my sheet or FPC yet because there are 12 of them and it's more work than I feel like taking on at the moment, so they're just in limbo.

Refilled clicky pens that were out of ink. Not dried up, just empty or nearly so.

A couple things I noticed:

The super light Topaz writing I had on my previous fill must have been from water in the feed/nib. This refill is more consistent with how it had been writing. Same with Ukikusa.

The light angle here makes the sheen of Momiji on Midori MD paper really shine.

Not pictured, but the paper in my hobby log is still a bit disappointing, none of these look as nice there.

@lispi314@udongein.xyz IIRC the environment variable way does still work, too, if that's your preference. But between the custom system default and Firefox finally changing the factory default in 149 it will hopefully be a moot point soon.

It's frustrating sometimes because it does work properly on Mint w/Cinnamon; With the default value of 2 it uses Cinnamon's file picker. But I've had the same issue on FreeBSD and other Linux distros using KDE.

The GTK file picker Firefox wants to use by default is meh. I'm not sure why it doesn't use the one provided by the OS when it's just one about:config tweak away. Change widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal.file-picker from 2 to 1 and you get the much, much better KDE file picker. Assuming you're using @kde@floss.social of course.

It's been a problem for ages on multiple operating systems, not a new thing. At least now you don't have to set environment variables and change startup scripts.

I got these bottle-shaped stamps to make ink swatch cards. The shop didn't label them (likely for copyright/trademark reasons), so it's a bit of a guessing game for ones I don't recognize. Problem is I can't recall why I bought the sheet labeled "D" as I have none of those inks, but maybe I got it because they also work as good generic bottles?

I tried labeling the ones I recognize or found searching. Anyone know the "?" ones I couldn't definitively ID?
